Wondering if I should check out Verizon Fios

Just went live in my area - I think, the website says Internet is available, but then another part of the website says it isn't, guess I'll find out when I call.

I have Comcast. Generally happy with them, except on the rare occasion they'll drop my connection constantly, or reading about the new DataCap limit...

Plus, I hear good things about Fios, though the prices worry me. Their website shows 69.99$ for 15 / 5 ! Comcast is giving me 33 / 5 for 49.99$!

And yet I hear how much faster it is, not just from commercials, but other users - can people chime in?

They have a 400$ Prepaid Visa giftcard for new sign ups - and well, that's pretty nice, on top of savings. I know it's a 1-year Contract deal, but it still tempts me so.

So anyone who has the service - thoughts?

The thing with Fios is that it does not use electricity to broadcast its signal. It uses light and mirrors to transfer data(on a simple level). What that means is that you will now have far more consistent speed and little to no fluctuation in speeds-- only time that happens is when many people are on the same line as you at once.

Check out their internet page. Page link This is internet only. Pretty sure you were looking at the whole fios triple play thing. Don't need it unless you want it. Without it and just a internet plan you get more for the money.

For $10 more a month you get 17mb/s faster on your download and 20mb/s more on your upload. That is a bargain for another $10.

He's referring to fiber optic cables.

It does sound a little bit crazy when you start mentioning light and mirrors

Well i mentioned to show how it gives a more stable signal due to little to none wireless interference with other devices.
