Wireless access point problem

Hi all

I have a wap that i am trying to put into my home network to gain wifi for the sisters laptop.

It is a non branded affair.

These are the details from the sticker on the back :

11mbps access point

fcc id : m4y - xi - 0001250a

made in taiwan

model : xi - 1250a

56 - 3000001 - 04

input voltage 5v

h/w rev : 0.32

f/w rev : 3.0.0

mac : 0060b3 - 19ad4c

bar code number : 250a3bne00304

it has worked in the past but it was set up by an old house mate who did networking.

This is not my area of expertise.

Any help in figuring out how to get it to play ball would be much appreciated

you'll have to access the home address of the wap. it's usually something like 192.168.0.1

from there there might be a setup wizard. good luck

No the laptop can see it but i do not know the passkey, since i never used it or set it up. Plus ex house mate can not be reached as he is now somewhere in Canada.

So i need to figure out how to hard rest the little thing to reset its passwords then access it through the router i am guessing to set it up a new

Are you using the wireless adaptors on your PC's in 802.11b or 802.11b/g mode? If you have them in 802.11g only mode there's your problem. The WAP is only 802.11b enabled.

I'm sure everything here is g.

I can see it fine and if i knew the darn passkey i could connect to it but i dont so that is what i need to get around

That's 802.11b (11mbps), so if your adaptors are running on 802.11g (54mbps) you need to drop them down to 802.11b or 802.11b/g mode for the connection to be established.

ok

after doing a hard reset follow the manual provided (many thanks) i have it up and i have connected the laptop.

now there comes a new issue.

it is an unprotected access point.

the manual goes on about popping in the cd and going from there. you guessed it, i do not have a cd.

it also states its default ip would be 192.168.1.1 , that is the ip of mt router it is plugged up to.

how can i assign a new ip to avoid conflict
