Windows wont load. Out of ideas.

Hey all! Had my computer running fine this morning, then went off to work, came back and found that it would POST, but wouldnt enter windows. The windows screen with the blue taskbar comes up, then eventually I get a BSOD about the time it would normally drop into the desktop.

What i`ve tried so far: Flashing the CMOS, changing the CPU (was running under a Vapo before, then to air, then changed the CPU under air), switched the memory and changed the boot disk (the replacement wasnt set up for the mobo, but it wouldnt let me boot off the Windows disk when I changed the boot devices). Have been through all my BIOS settings, and nothing is abnormal.

AFAIK, it cant be the IDE cable for the HD coz if it was, the comp wouldnt POST, right?

Any ideas?

Mobo?

Thanks

Kenny

It can still POST (power on self test) without a hard disk, but will stop because it cannot load anything and will come up with some sort of moan.

Can also stop when the BOOT device isn't selected properly, like if the correct onboard driver is not enabled in the BIOS. You can check to see if the hard disk has been picked up in the bios, it should show up in the boot list...

Have fun sorting it! :D

Hey stocky, thanks for the damn fast reply!

The hard disk is coming up in the POST list, and its selected as primary boot drive. Because of this, will trying another IDE cable make any difference? Will have another look through BIOS settings for hard disk stuff

Have no idea why it would work fine this morning, then refuse to play tonight :(

Managed to get in under safe mode, did a system restore and its more or less good :) All the websites I visit come up out of date tho...weird. e.g... this thread doesnt exist when I come to the site, but if I refresh the page...up it comes. We-ird
