Windows Network Bandwidth Limit

So my internet isn't exactly the greatest and according to a few runs of speedtest.net the best result i got was... Ping: 28ms, Down: 4.67Mbps, and Up:0.94Mbps. I recently came across the ability to disable Win 7 reserved limit of 20% for Windows updates and other Windows tasks.

So my question is is it really worth it? Will it help increase my speed or stability? Or in the end does it cause a lot of problems and instability issues? If it helps i have windows update set to off and i will manually check/install updates so the bandwidth limit is of no use to that.. Any help and or other advice to speed up my connection would be great

I forgot to mention I'm running wireless(would rather use homeplugs but oh well) and my adapter is far faster than what my router can provide. So it's not the connection i'm sure and upgrading the router is not an option(my parents won't).

I feel for you mate, Up until a few months ago I was in the same boat, with max speeds of around 6, and it turned out that I was on the old line cfm or something like like that, I'm not sure how it works over in the US, but it might be something like that. It took me about 9 phone calls to my provider over the space of 4 months to determine that. As soon as they put me onto the new line my speeds increased up to 15.

Well on my rigs running on 7 and Server 2012 I max out the Gigabit connections so I dont honestly see an issue?

At first people said that it reserves 20% of your bandwidth all the time. After that 20% is supposedly used only for Windows Update and when a program specifically requests priority bandwidth via QoS, otherwise you have 100% of the bandwidth all the time.
I've seen a few tests trying this out and they saw 0 difference and claimed it was a myth. The only people who saw the difference were individual users who may or may not lie. I've tried it myself when this started to pop out on forums and saw no difference.
Don't see any harm in trying this one out and seeing for yourself. You could download a linux distro via torrent to maximize you bandwidth usage and then try to download an update and see whats happening with 0% or 20% limit.

I've done a little bit of research and have tried it and saw no difference, so i'm leaving it on and whenever QoS comes up it'll be used.
