Windows Firewall Issues?

So, today... I fell asleep and my computer was set to automatically update. I woke up, my computer had restarted. (Which is perfectly fine) BUT.. I noticed that I couldn't load anything on my browser.. As in, I had clicked youtube and it took about 5 minutes to actually decided to change to the youtube page. I've had this issue before, so I took a look at my windows firewall and saw that it was disabled. I tried to re-enable it but it said it couldn't automatically do it, so I tried to press manually and windows firewall just crapped out and said not responding for 10+ minutes, so I gave up and just decided to do a system restore. Everything is working fine, with the exception of display fusion... Which I installed ages ago. It gives me a "xError" message telling me nothing of the issue. I primarily use display fusion, not for wallpaper adjustments, but mainly just aligning my tabs up. So if anyone knows what exactly causes windows firewall to crap out.. or how I can stop getting this error with displayfusion, please help.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

All the things installed were security updates for win7

I did use the system restore and my system is working perfectly now, besides Display fusion, so I can't test hypothesis's with the Windows Firewall, I can barely browse the internet with it, so no point.

did you try a 3rd party one? something like comodo i think, will overwrite the win firewall

try to reinstall first, to what date did you restore it to? a winupdate should create a restore point before installing the updates, whihc is best place to restore to after a faulty update etc.

I'll try out Comodo. I system restored to an update from yesterday, just in case.

Martyn, I don't think it's malware that is the issue, because when I did a full reinstall of windows, the same issue was prompted as soon as windows loaded, which probably was issues that dealt with the windows firewall files.. I just don't know how they could be corrupted by a windows security update.

A lot of malware does disable firewalls be it windows or any other. To be on the safe side I would start your PC in safe mode and run a scan just for your own peace of mind.

It can't harm.

I dont mean to offend martyn but ive never, NEVER used any sort of security protection apart from firewall from win,

Ive never had a single bug, trojan or spyware, for over 5 years i have never had a problem with any sort of malware and honestly i really think that people wo blame every pc problem on malware are just plain stupid, its just like goggling a cold just to find you that it can be caused by brain damage(i did that once

in regards to the topic, as i said try the 3rd party firewall if the windows one doesnt cooperate and the only thing i can think of in regards to the software issue is reinstall. or you can try cleaning the registry(ccleaner will do) then reinstall but i can think of anything else, good luck

No offence taken. But in that respect you are one of the lucky few. I personally have had to sort out dozens of peoples pc's and laptops that have been stricken by all sorts of nasty's (and most of the people don't trawl questionable sites either)

Found the issue... It was malware. Yeah, I didn't question a software I was given by a friend.. and found the malware on my 2TB. Though, I can't figure out what went wrong with display fusion, I'll eventually reinstall windows, one day.

Though, I still do question why that happened as soon as I installed windows last time and it happened immediately. Odd. (I never have my 2TB connected when I reinstall windows)
