If you already have a version of Windows 10 installed on your system you need to re-install 7 or 8 to get the free upgrade. (They are now saying you may not need to will keep you up-to date )

Once Windows 10 has installed on your machine THEN you can do a clean install but from what they are saying you need to upgrade first.

If you have an OEM licence and lets say your motherboard dies and you put a new board in then you will need to purchase a new copy of Windows 10 if you have the full retail version you do not have to worry.

Windows 10 will be available as an ISO after upgrade for re-installation purposes (When hasn't been mentioned yet that I've seen).

Windows 10 is pre-licensed so you do not have to install a key during or after install.

When you download your ISO it must be the same as your current software Eg. If you own Windows 7 Home and you download Windows 10 Pro you either have to buy Windows 10 Pro or roll back to Windows 7 Home and download Windows 10 Home.

Once you upgrade to Windows 10 successfully using the free upgrade offer, you will be able to clean reinstall Windows 10 on the same device during and after the free upgrade offer period without having to purchase Windows 10 or having to go back to the prior version of Windows that you upgraded from.

I shall update this thread as I get more information hope this helps in the mean time.

MS have already said if you are running the W10 preview, you will be upgraded to W10 automatically on launch day? So that part should be updated:)

Ya they said you need to upgrade first to W10 before you can do a full reinstall of W10. Which makes sense:)

That's a shame about OEM.. honestly they should make it for upgraded users a full retail version. It makes it easier on the consumer.

I think you forgot to mention the upgrade versions people will be getting.. W7 users with starter, basic, student edition, or HP, will get W10. Users with W7 Pro/Ult will get W10 pro:)
W8.1 works the same way with their editions too

Also I have a question for everyone, W10 is coming and we will be getting drivers and software updates etc for supporting it.. but what about BIOS updates? Surely we will need one? We needed one for W8 so is there any news on which chipset boards will be getting the update?
