Hey guys, So right now I am on the windows 8 consumer preview and I have to say I am surprised, I thought I wouldn't like and I kind of wanted myself to not like it but I do. I like the store, I like the speed, I like the metro interface. Have any of you guys tried it and do you think you will use it when it is released?

I think the switch from Win7 to Win8 will be like the switch from XP to Win7 (forgiving Microsoft for vista) Only people who "Want it" will switch in the first few years because it doesn't have any real improvements in functionality... also, people that are still using XP will continue to use it for a longggggg time because it isn't degrading in quality and fits most peoples needs. But no... I won't be using windows 8...

I am yet to make a partition and try it out, I really should get on that and give this a try hopefully if I like it there won't be a massive overhaul with my pc if I make the switch on the full version

Barely learnt 7 yet, so if I learn a new OS, might as well be the latest.

My xp was heavily modded (kind of miss it!), so if 8 can be "fixed" to behave just like 7 or xp with performance gains like thread usage and gaming improvements, then I will move. Also "useful" new "features" should have the option of being disabled in some way. Things like signing in to Windows Live, metro ui, new and inevitable throughput throttling features...

To me its one step backwards from windows 7 rather than forward.

The metro interface is kinda good. i do like it abit. Its great on mobile devices and i think it should stay there. Also perfect for all in one desktop pcs that have touchscreen and also as mentioned above, for HTPC's.

But overall i didn't like it so im not going to switch at all, if i do buy a laptop with windows 8 on it, i'll downgrade ti windows 7, its just perfect

Nope, Windows 8 is not my cup of tea. Sure it will be awesome on tablets and such, maybe even HTPC's too, but for desktop PC's it looks like i'm gonna be sticking with Windows 7 for sure

I've had the Consumer Preview on my HTPC for a little while, it's not bad but my first port of call when it boots is the desktop tile, always.

I just don't have any use for the Metro UI, that may change when 8 is released and more apps are available but for now it's a gimmick.

In which case if I have no use for Metro (and the way you have to power off bugs me) I won't be jumping to Windows 8 when it's released.

Only on a tablet. There is no advantage over windows 7 on a desktop. Actually I think it's a downgrade on a desktop

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO! I installed it last week on a spare machine I have and within minutes I was swearing loudly at it! Metro is just out right stupid you launch anything and it takes you back to the desktop after leaving it to launch said application. Why don't they have it so as you don't leave the desktop... oh wait they do it's called THE BLOODY START MENU!!!

I think Windows 8 will be another Vista.

Not running a touch screen monitor, so don't see any benefits from going to Windows 8 over Windows 7 imo.

they didn't even get rid of that metro thing on the new server OS's. it's either that or just console. doesn't bug me too much but M$ will be annihilating a whole generation of server "administrators".
