hi this my first post in this forum

i am planning to assemble new pc for multimedia and casual gaming

Athlon 64 X2 4400+ ( 2.3GHz 1MB L2 cache )

Asus M2N-E

xfx 8600gt

2gb 800mhz kingston ram

1. My question is, will this processor bottleneck 8600gt?? in games like ut2007 and FarCry at 1280X1024(ultra high)

2. Wen playing games like ut2007 or even crysis(at mid settings) will my processor be running at full throttle,

can anyone say approx percentage my processor will be running when playing these games?????

please answer these two questions

I don't think it will bottleneck the GPU.. but in Crysis you will probably see it running flat out. ;)

Welcome to the forums matey!

Even if they don`t compete with Intel on a speed basis, the processors like AMD x2 3800+ and above, even clocked, still deal some heavy power to games. Especially ones written well that use more than 1 core.

In my mind, the mobo would be more of a consideration than the cpu here - not saying the mobo in question isn`t up for it, but it would be more a concern than the cpu. If the mobo handles the 8000 range well, I`d have no problems.

AMD mobos haven`t seen any great leaps for a long time imo.

Casual gaming @ 1280x1024, I don`t think theres an issue.

thanks for the reply

How much load will be there for processor wen playing farcry at full settings, i wont be changing this config atleast 2-3yrs, so shud i consider to reserve some processing power for future by choosing c2duo+xfx 650i ultra??

Im not sure why you are worried about how much of the CPU Farcry will use.

But as you asked Farcry has a recommended of 1Ghz single core. I very much doubt FarCry will use all of the CPU. ;)

Core 2 Duo is alot quicker than the AMDs at the moment and will have a longer life.

ok here is the situation, let assume dat iam playing stalker with config 1 at 1280X1024(max details) and i am getting 30fps

If i play this same game same settings with config 2 will there be any fps increase?can any one guess??????????

config 1

Athlon 64 X2 4400+ ( 2.3GHz 1MB L2 cache )

MSI K9N ULTRA

xfx 8600gt

2gb 800mhz kingston ram

config 2

Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz E6550

Asus P5B

xfx 8600gt

2gb 800mhz kingston ram

i just want to know how these two processors perform with same 8600gt.

Wt abt crysis if i get 10fps with config 1 , config 2= ??

hmm in actual fps.. can honestly say I don`t know.

Best I could do in order to compare the 2 in some wild %age way would be to see the 2 setups 3DMark06 scores and reflect on it.

Something like 8600 + C2D 6550/6400/6600 vS 4400+/5000+ and a 8600.

It won`t be an exact science of course.

U be running the 4400+ @ stock too ?

The core 2 duo will win. Maybe roughly the same speed but the clock cycles on the C2D is higher than the AMD.

I would got for the intel plus Crysis will like the Intel chip. :)

Stalker will get a nice boost from the new hardware too! Give it a go!

Yeah, no doubt the c2d would thrash it cycle for cycle. How that reflects in terms of gaming fps i don`t know.

Had a debate somewhere about comparisons of these cpus at stock, and I firmly believe that, at stock, u can still say the AMD cpus are as efficient as their named Intel counterparts.

By that I mean an AMD x2 4400+ would be like C2D E4400.

Of course, both have different oc levels, but that would appear a very rough comparison `out of the box`.

He4 means Crysis? Crysis will need a powerful CPU

darkorb`s 3800 x2 @2.7 seems to be at 80/90% - that`s one heck of alot cpuage. I don`t know whether there`s something in the settings that hikes that up in terms of quality.

A stock AMD running @ 2.7 ?? What`s that - a 5000+ or 6000+ ?? Think the 6400 is 3.0.

Nicely said Rast! :)

But if I was you mate, I would go for a C2D for Crysis. Because the Engine is designed for the intel chips. ;)
