Ive patched..ive tried lower settings (making it look poo) and even looked at tweak guides. I just cant get this game to run smoothly!!! Recommended settings anyone?

Strange I can play it on high

Opty 2.7Ghz

2Gb Ram

X1800XT

And one of my friends runs it on high with a

Dual core 2.8

7600 XXX

1Gb

Well ill be formatting monday for my new 640gb hdd setup (2x 320gb raid0) so thatll be interesting. 1680x1050 is my native resolution so i run the game at that. Currently medium preset graphics is quite unplayable (no AA). Do you run it on high with static HDR or full HDR?

Aye, I know what you mean. Just seems a dodgy engine from my POV. Should be getting my new hdds today so ill format, get the latest CCC (official) as im on omegas atm (7.1) and ill give it a whirl tonight hopefully.

Xfire has been causing lots of problems lately with games - try it without. I could never run the original FEAR with xfire running as the fps would drop below 10

I agree, I was never impressed by the Stalker engine. Very unstable.

Look at the Graphic/performance ratio. Pretty pants seeing as the grahics are bad and the performance is worst!! :(

i play this with:

7800gtx

1gb 3338 T1 ram

3800+sandy

not on high...i tweaked to get max performance

be aware this game take >500mb ram for itself and a lot CPU

Tis a resource hog but extremely immersive ;)

Tweaky times then methinks. Have you tried running it on the Direct3D 8 renderer? Admittedly it lacks lighting and atmosphere, but it should run on your system and most other PC's for that matter.

I've had a fiddle with a few of the options, and if you're having trouble getting it to run acceptably then try these. Simply open up the console with the tilde key (~)

r2_gi_photons 64 Default is 16, max is 256. Reduce the 'glow' effect on objects like artefacts. Any higher than about 128 and you may as well turn off GI with r2_gi off.

r2_gi_refl 0.001 Default is 0.9, max is 0.99i. Reduces reflections on lights, speed boost most noticeable when using the flashlight.

r2_sun details off Turns off the sun shadows on objects like grass.

r2_sun off Pretty self explanatory :p But gives back a heap of performance in return.

r2_tonemap off Turns off HDR. Things won't seem as 'over bright' and you may see a small performance boost.

r2em 0 (requires vid_restart to take affect) Default is 2.2, max is 4. I have absolutely no idea what it does lol, but changing it to 0 gave me about 10 frames with no noticeable loss in visual quality.

r_detail density Min 0.2, max 0.6. Reduces/increases the density of grass. Provides a tiny performance boost when set to 0.2

r_geometry_lod Min is 0.1, max is 1.2. On it's lowest setting provides a massive performance boost, but everything looks awful :( I have it set to 1, but you can get it to 0.6 before the level of detail jumps become really noticeable.

Once you've fiddled with the settings above, type vid_restart to reload the video subsystem. If all else fails, just use the in-game video menu to change to static lighting. You can lose a lot of the atmosphere, but the game won't skip a beat.
