Who is running 8800s in SLI

I am wondering about my 8800 cards. I have 2 and want to run SLI on my DFI SLI DR mobo. But I think its X8 and X8 when running SLI,

Will it make a BIG difference over X16 and X16 mobos?

Seeing as the 8800s are pretty powerful cards.. running them on an 8x will maybe starve the things?

Meaning they may not get enough infomation? :eh:

I knew a long time ago that the 8800s needed the X16 but what I am wondering is How much difference is there? 50% 20%?

I will have to buy a new mobo/CPU/DDR2 memory to get X16. (thats a lot of $$ I dont have)

Im sure it will run fine.. Probably more or less like a single card.. Maybe with about 10% performance increase.. :eh:

If you think about it.. 8+8 = 16... Meaning all together you get 16x bandwidth.. but using 2 cards.

Mmmm, I would guess and say you would get a small increase in most games/apps.

But obviously two 16x would rock! :D

Nope, Markk you won't see much of a loss. I read with HD2900XTs there's only a 5% loss if any.

I look at it this way, if were not using the full bandwidth of 8x then what does it mater? Or rather like this man. If you got 2 of them do it anyways!! hahah i know i would.

lol, I am entering my last mod contest and the whole purpose of the CrossFlo is SLI.

Seems like a waste to enter with just 1 card (just like every other SFF case) But I can no way afford a new mobo and stuff.

It won't be a huge performance hit, if any at all.

If you have both cards do it anyways. I dont see why youd see a performance hit when your sticking another 8800 in there anyways. Kinda dosent make sense. Maybe half the bandwidth but double the g80 power.

I've read a few reviews and seen quite a few benchmarks on the P5N-E Sli vs the P5N-32E Sli comparing the 8 + 8 or the 16 + 16 on the PCIE going Sli. The difference was nothing.. The 8 + 8 even beat the 16 + 16 on 1 or 2 benches.

Could you post the link to that review?

Ahh i thought you might say that... Means i've gotta go find it again  :D

edit:

Ok, i've found 1 of them...

Keep in mind that this review is aimed at my motherboard rather than GFX cards but as the benchmarks were done using SLI'd GTX's on the PN5-E SLI (8+8) and PN5-32E (16+16) the results show reasonably sound comparable figures in my opinion.

Let me know what ya think.

edit again:

Also just wanna say that obviously it will vary depending on motherboard and also the higher the resolution the bigger the difference i'd expect.

last edit: might actually be worth linking the review ay

Wow im impressed! :)

Just goes to show in a way how bad;y programmed SLI really is..

It is still a suprise to see such result though.

Thanks for the read mate!

See i told you. The performance is minimal difference between 8xAGP and PCI-E so i dont see why there would be a difference between 8x and 16x PCI-E. And like i said, your sticking another card in there in the first place and it happens to be an 8800 so you would see a boost in performance either way.

Thats what i thought... I was quite happy though seeing as i'd gone for the cheaper option.. Not that i'm thinking about Sli really seeing as my single GTS kicks serious bumcheek anyway.
