So the new eval just came out for 90 days with Windows 8 I just want to know what you all think of it? I through DeVry got the full retail OS Windows 8 x64 Pro (NON EVAL) 3 months before release. I am here to tell you there is no difference between that and the eval version. Personally I think it is pretty cool. Metro is a little odd to get used to but you get the hang of it after a while. All my old Windows 7 stuff including drivers for my ASUS P53E work great.

It is MUCH MUCH MUCH faster than Windows 7. I am typing this while on Windows 8 and I have 6 tabs open on IE, Steam open, ASUS live update, and a few other back applications running and I am only using 1.2gb!! When I am sitting with nothing open I used about 600mb!! My CPU has been between 0% - 5% during this entire conversation too.

i am so frickin leary of metro.. to me its kinda app to
"monitor" activity and app usage. having something
tied into your desktop "live" on a broadband connection
is a sneaky peak into our personals.
still hopping mad about the Kinect hack.. and its from
the same softie company. until the metro removal tool
is available.. no 8 for me. the binding code is too open.

I don't think it is a monitoring software really. Although if it is I am not to worried about it, I installed it on my laptop. I am not going to be installing nor using it on my desktop until all the bugs are worked out with more advanced video cards, CPUs, and motherboard. I have WAYYY to much on my main rig to take the dive.

you mean the metro ui, that M$ are supposedly being sued by a german company for copyright infringement?
looks like they'll have to change metro's name LMFAO!! M$ fail again.

on the pretty flashy outside.. its just a touch-screen app... underneath is the problem.

personally im really liking windows 8. i know that microsoft have sent the memo round that its not to be called metro but i know that ill be calling it that. The thing is you have to pick and choose the bits you want to use. People like us wont use metro on our desktops, but while we wont be using that there is just as many changes in the desktop environment and kernel as from xp to 7. Storage spaces are a really good feature that gets rid of the limitations or RAID. The way Word and other apps are integrated with skydive is good as well connecting all your devices (saying i have 2 desktops a server a laptop and will probably get a tablet for on the road) and syncing your settings across them all. While the new OS looks like it will limit what you can do in the way of customisation ill tell you now that MS havent locked it down at all. With the exeption of the start orb you can do whatever and the only reason for the start orb going is why have the phsical button you have to guide your way onto when it'll work by just putting your cursor into the corner?? Dont get me wrong there are things i still dont like, the fact you have to start into metro is one that bugs me campaired to it should give u a choice.

Everyone will have to make up there own mind with this one, its marmite. You'll either love it or hate it and i can tell you now that ive been on both sides of the fence with this OS. To start with i hated it, the developer preview didnt get you buzzing as i couldnt see the point in forcing metro on everyone but as MS have been unavailing new features ive really started to like it. Also the 'metro' enviroment is such a pleasure to code in, not everything is there yet but its well on the way and with how MS are going to update the OS every year for the next few years i think its only going to get better.

Im not an MS fan-boy as i do have a thing for Linux ;) but i love how this is unfolding, even more so saying it'll be on sale for £40 for the first 6 months at least.

Thats my honest opinion tbh, i hope it sheds some light on the OS for some people. :)

I have been playing around with Windows 8... Strange to get used to, I don't like not having the normal start button.....

Can find where to add more Mail account.. it said to add them in settings but I can't even find that LOL!

nah but it will grow on you as youll find that just using the win key is easier and you have more space for apps along the bottom :)

for settings in all 'Metro' apps press the 'windows' key+ 'i'. then just select accounts, then add account.

hope that helps :)

After a bit of research I figured it out, so very different. And will take time getting used to it.... But I guess that's like any new thing :)

I've been playing around with it a bit on my HTPC. I didn't get on with it initially. But now I've got a touch screen it's been so much easier to use, as I expected really.
There's no way it'll be going on my desktop until I can control metro minority report style or remove it completely.
TBH the next OS I put on my desktop could be Linux. Due to the amount of support it's now getting from 3rd parties, in particular Steam and Nvidia, the bashing 8's been getting from 3rd parties, again Steam, and the fact it really feels like desktop users have been left out in 8.
Won't go down that route until 7 becomes decrepit though.

I'm loving Windows 8. Metro doesn't bother me at all, I actually quite like it. The removal on the visual start button is more of a plus IMO. You can just drag your cursor in the corner without even looking, its much faster. Only compatibility issues I have had is the ASUS Windows 7 version of AISuiteII, but they have since released the Windows 8 version and all has been going well. I have honestly never even owned a Windows 7 Machine. Went from my Vista laptop to Windows 8 CP. It's so easy to use even a 14 year old kid from the US can use it! Hahahaha. (Yes I'm only 14...)

Thanks, TheCMStormStryker

Yeah Im guessing Microsoft knew that as 8 is a big change and that 7 is still very good so they would have to make it cheaper so they people would buy it

Windows 8 actually requires less than puppy Linux to run (256mb of RAM). You can run Windows 8 on 128mb of RAM. And some have been able to use it for a little while on 64mb.

I have 5 apps running: IE10, Mail, People, store, and Desktop, As well as 40 background processes and I have not even broken 2gb yet.

BTW, IE10 is downright AMAZING! especially the metro version. Chrome has NOTHING on IE10. IE10 is faster in EVERY respect even HTML 5 and especially FLASH.

Also I have been using Bing a lot more. Bing has been giving me much better results in every category than Google has lately.

The Mayans were right all along.
I'm not willing to take the plunge myself as of yet, but i'm more than willing to allow my cousin to take the plunge for me. If it's fast on his amazingly crappy laptop, it'll be fast for me.

I really want to see what Google has to bring though. Also the spell checker in IE10 blows away the crappy one on Chrome. It feels as though IE10 spell checker is the same in Word. Now they just need to add grammar correction.

Also need to add, Skydrive is the best (may seem arrogant) cloud storage there is. You can access EVERY file on your computer from another without having to upload it to the skydrive.
