Which Monitor?

Greetings guys and gals, been a while :)

Well, I have a 15" TFT d-sub which works superbly but I`m gonna give it to my Dad and upgrade to a DVI version. I`ve decided on a 17" (don`t see the point of a 19" which gives the same resolution) but would appreciate the opinions of you lovely lot on whether or not you appreciate a widescreen to a standard 4:3 piece of kit? I need to know how games look in particular ... I have noted on XLeague TV that they utilise 4:3 standard and have to ask the question why I suppose :)

Thanks a bunch :)

PS, Y`all still with IDNet?

personaly, if i was going to upgrade, i'd for a widescreen. But not one that small. You can get nice 20" widescreens for sub £200 now. Anyways, thats what i'd do.

PS: i feel sick cus im sooooo drunk :S

A 19inch 1440x900 I'd personally say, even if it were the same res that 2 inches is very nice.I highly appreciate my widescreen, wouldn't buy another monitor that wasn't. Even if you disregard my 19" suggestion, at least go for widescreen.

And yes they are still with IDNet.

20" is too big ... I`m only sitting a foot from it! :) Plus, I don`t want to run the risk of degradation to quality of resolution due to hardware inadequacies ... I can play all games (that I own at any rate) at full res with good fps without worry and reckon that going from 1024*768 to the next level won`t pose a problem .... deffo 1440*900 on a widescreen won`t affect anything much anyway, but the burning question, what about standard 4:3 and what and why should I go for this or either? :D

And you should feel ashamed of yourself Nathan, being drunk AND sick ... come with me, I`ll show you how to drink 10 cans of Stella and still get up for 6 til 2 ;)

Thanks Mike, you replied while I was replying to Nathan :)

Thank you but (and yes, you`ve convinced me to go widescreen) but why 19" over 17" when the res is still the same? :) Or is perhaps the difference not noticable? Have you had both perhaps? :)

Thx TY, I use OC a lot in fact, just bought a SATA drive and some Medusa 5.1 headphones from them not so long back ... sent the headphones back tho, they developed a fault (which I was pleased about because they were utter rubbish) but received a full refund in half a day, great bunch over there :)

Thx for the link Ty ... can you shed any thoughts on my 17" vs 19" and why to go for either though? :)

Thank you Nathan, don`t go to too much trouble tho man :) Both will be at the same res tho, won`t they? ;)
Yes, they will most likely be the same resolution, however despite the res, it really is just nice to have a large screen I think. Those 2 inches are just nice, and 1440x900 in no way looks too large on a 19" screen.

Cheers Nath, I`ll tek a look :)

lol, I know the physical difference ... need to know the practical difference tho mate ... thank you for your kind efforts though, I really appreciate all your help :)

Aye, I know, I guess what I meant to say is really there is no practical difference other than it being nicer to look at. Pixels are a bit larger, not really noticeable, I was just emphasizing how nice the extra size is :p

Yea no problem mate. Just a note, keep down on the double posts, if you have to post again EDIT the previous post, especially on a very active thread.

Speak as I find type of guy myself Nathan, OC have never given me any grief ... if they do, the internet will get a glossary! ;)

Thanx for your efforts Nathan :)
