Which mobo?

Hi guys,

I've not been keeping up on the PC scene latley (been getting into the fish scene :)) so I'm not too sure whats new. I want to get a 7800 GTX and a new mobo for it. My question is which 7800 GTX and which mobo? It has to be a socket 939 as I'm going to keep my FX55.

Thanks.

Good evening sir. Are you interested in SLI, or will 1 card do? I`d recommend the Epox 9NPA3+ or SLI, or maybe the Abit AN8, tho I havent seen any reviews of it yet, it does sound capable.

Bet most of the others suggest the DFI tho. :)

How about putting ur computer in your fish tank? Computer keeps water warm, water keeps processor cool?

:)

But fish and the stuff that lives in their water doesnt help the computer cooling much, doubt the fish would appreciate Zerex or water wetter in their water much.

DFI is a great board for overclocking, but does require lots of cooling considerations. Most NF4 board perform pretty well so it sort of depends on what options you are looking for from the board.

I didnt mean directly, and you know that. You also forgot the electrical aspects there.... :-p

What electricity aspects? Surely PC watercooling keeps the water and the electricity apart just as in fish keeping?

I know you werent serious to just put fish in the loop, i forgot to put the ;) at the end. Just imagine if one met with a pump impellor  Those kind of fish tend not to be cheap either.

Back on topic, i dont think there is enough information to say which (if any) maker of 7800GTX would be best, i think it is just luck with the core, all the boards i have seen floating around are just reference based, so it is a question of BIOSes (which you can flash) and coolers (which we change anyway) so just go for the cheapest one, most of us arent interested in the bundle with the card to much, just the card itself.

Thanks guys,

I was thinking along the lines of the DFI NF4 SLI board but the board seems to have lots of issues with it, have these been sorted? I need to use my FX55 and my existing ram (see sig) in this board, do you think I would be able to get the same clocks I have now (see sig again) or better?

Im getting deep into the fish stuff now, just got myself one of these (Royal Pleco);

wierd fish!!!! well the dfi board has cold boot issues with the utt stuff at ram voltages over 3.2v which has been remedied i think (test bios as we speak) on the 618 bios but it aint a good clocking bios how ever eth hell fires 510-2 is very good anyway the dfi board is very good so id go for that

Cheers Phil for that, is there a guide somewhere for this board that has all these kind of tips? I remember when I got my present mobo (see sig) i had this guide from extreme systems that had almost every tip for it. So I just went through it and got the benefits of everyone else's hard work without having to sift through a stack load of pages :D

Any other suggestions for a hassle free board (one that will work without the need for Vmods) that I can clock my FX55 to at least 3.2 Ghz in?

Get breeding these (Hypancistrus zebra) or just Zebras for short, they're going for £295 each at the moment because imports are band, my brother's just had a spawn of 14 eggs, do the maths  Enough funds there to fuel this PC addiction.

Wow, score, that is an awesome way to source funds. Cool fish too.

I gotta get meself some of these beauties to fuel my upgrade madness.

Yea but think about it...they would have to be a long-term investment... the tank and heating setup...the food... considered getting fish once. Too pricy, but that was 10years ago. My interest didnt get past Neon Tetra.
