Which MoBo??

Hi guys. Well I'm sure this is a daft question but...........

Which mobo should I go for if I buy an FX53? I want to overclock the hell out of it on water. Might even get a tec once I fully understand them.

I've been looking at MSI K8N Diamond, Abit 3rd eye (the PCI-e one) or one of the sli DFI lan party boards.

I'm hoping to get 300FSB or at least near to it using Gskill LA mem.

Am I going in the right direction or not?

I run an overclocked P4 at 3.9 at the mo on water and want to beat it :)

Many thanks,

Tom.

Ta mate, but why??? Why not the K8N or the 3rd eye boards?? What is so good about the DFI ones?? Are they now making reliable boards?

He told you to get a K8N, the MSI board he suggested is one. The MSI is probably best avoided if you have a Winchester and Mach II, as apparently that combo is not really useful. The ABIT is fine if you want that route, but apparently the VIA chipset is still hit and miss on the PCI lock. I would just get an nF4 board, be it ABIT Fatal1ty or DFI or MSI, all will hit 300MHz FSB easily I imagine, and they're gonna hold their worth longer as not many people are upgrading to AGP are they?

The DFI is reliable, as long as the BIOS likes your board, which is improving, and they offer the best overclocking options, but if you don't want to risk it the ABIT Fatal1ty seems like a good board if you don't want SLi. It has good options and if there is a 'Special BIOS' like there was for the AA8 board then it should have some more options for overclocking.

Many thanks. I thought the K8N was a NF4 board? I have a MSI K8N Diamond and a Abit AN8 Fatal1ty nForce4 Ultra board on stand by. I was going to get the Faral1ty board but in truth, I just wasn't sure if it was all hype. What is the difference with the Lan party boards? What does a DFI LanParty NF4 SLI-DR have that a DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-D does not? I must be dumb coz I cannot see anywhere what the difference is?

I was going to use an FX55 with gskill pc4800LA and a enamax 640Watt PSU ( the one for servers). I have a x850xtpe to add to it too. :)

So what I'm really asking is with all this kit which MoBo is best? Does anyone use any of these new boards? I know you say pick one but surly there must be a king of OC boards for the fx55?

Many thanks again,

Tom.

I myself don't have a board for 939 yet, but will soon as I am getting an X850 this week. I myself will go for the ABIT or DFI LPUT SLI-D. The DFI obviously has all of the best overclocking options of any board on the market with vCore tp 2.1v and vDIMM to 4.0v. This is undoubted a great board and the ABIT if a BIOS emerges will still be hard to mprove on this. These board do apparently have problems out of the box, but newer BIOSes although in beta do fix these and are apparently pretty complete and stable

The LANPartyUT boards are sold as is and are just the board plus cables, where as with the standard LANParty you get a case carry strap and panel for your case which adds USB ports. Not great stuff I think you'll agree but it also has an extra SATA RAID controller on the board giving you 4 more ports, which again are useless unless you have loads of drives.

From that the DFI is the best for now for overclockability anyway, so I would probably go for that although I will wait a little longer to see what comes of the new ABIT board.

Sigh, well thanks for your advice but it seems I wont be getting a new board now because I can't find a chip to buy!

I did have an FX55 lined up but it's now been sold.

Anyone know if their are any for sale in the UK? Or are they all now sold waiting for the new core to comeout? Or maybe FX57 is about to come out? HMMMMMM. Might just have to stay with Intel (no)!!!!
