for a bit of gaming but mainly for programming and designing. also is the 4650 better than the 4570? and how much faster is the i7 to the p8800?

ok but the problem is that the dell has the i7, the pcspecialist laptop has the better gpu. which is more important? the cpu or the graphics card?

I'd get the first one and add an extra 2gb myself.

I'm with Ham. The first one seems to be the better choice. I would prefer more graphical power.

it does give you an option to upgrade the ram to 4gb but i think its costs £50 extra. also would i be able to overclock the gpu to be the same speed as an ati 4670?

Add your own to option 1 for £35 and it still comes in a tad cheaper than the 2nd option.
