My 2GB Crucial 8500 Ballistix arrived on thursday, and planning to get the Abit IP35 Pro tomorrow and with all the price drops and GO steppings arriving its seems the right time to for buying the cpu.

i'm planning to spend around £170 max so i guess the quad cores are the way to go right? but they don't seem to clock well and ppl are suggesting the 6850 are better overclockers, its so confusing since all my pc's were AMD based.

Looking about id go with a 6850 for new, or a Older E6700 if you can find one, for the x10 multi.

looks like the Q6600 is good for Desktop apps and encoding and the E6750 is good for gaming. I've decided to go for the q6600, hopefully the price will drop a little bit more tomorrow ;)

Lol - sorry, just had to say its G0 (zero) not GO ;) (just in case you were ringing to ask for one!)

I'm in a similar boat.

I think I'm going to play with the quad if I can get a G0...

But then these stories of 6850's @ 4ghz stable on air....

Life is tough!

So true:) (especially for those of us still using Socket 939)

sure is, took me 5 days of reading reviews and looking through forums to see which motherboard and ram i wanted, now been reading on the what cpu to get. ppl seem to be hitting 4Ghz with the E6850 on air which is amazing, just too to see some results with the Q6600 G0 to compare.

I very much doubt you'll hit 4ghz with a Q6600 :p Even if it is a G0...

Good idea, you've only got a month or so to wait. If I have money in a couple of months I'll do the same, I got my E6300 this morn ;)
