Which 700w+ supply that is quiet?

I have a Corsair HX520 and an Enermax Galaxy 850w power supply. I love the Galaxy but the noise from the rear 80mm fan is doing my head in. I want to get a 700w+ supply but it needs to be as quiet as the corsair. What do you recommend?

Thanks,

Dave.

something with a 120mm fan.

To be specific:

The same p/w supply you have but they also have a 750w version. or

Or The Silverston SST-ST75ZF 750W

Thanks. I was thinking about the Corsair but didn’t know if the bigger wattage one would be as quiet.

OCZ 700W GameXStream.

I didn’t know the OCZ range was quiet? My brother has one and his is nearly as loud as the Galaxy. I have heard good things about the Thermaltake toughpower 750w or i could mod the rear fan on the Galaxy with a quieter one, or even try and slow it down with a fan controller.

Hi mate,

Well, I was looking for exactly the same thing as you last month when building my new rig, After spending days and days reading reviews and getting 3 PSUs to test then returning them i ended up with the following:

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=499627

750W Silverstone ST75F modular, SLi Quad +12V rail, 6X PCI-E, ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS12V, 80 Efficiency

I would have preferred a single rail PSU however when i got this PSU, I was really impressed with the results It is was also very silent as it has a 120mm fan ...

Read some reviews on it, Im sure you will be impressed.

Compared to the OCZ1000w, the 700w GameXStream is near silent. I think they're lifted from the StealthXStream range but with an LED fan, they were marketed as silent PSUs. I have one in my system and it is very quiet, albeit perhaps drowned out by the other 7 fans in the system.

I still haven’t bought a new supply. I added another rad to my loop today and used the old Corsair “jumped” to prime the system "THAT PSU IS SO QUIET” I am scared of spending more money and not getting anywhere near as quiet. You cannot even hear the PSU when no fans are running in the rig only thing I could hear is the water/air going through the system, I had to look to see if the fan was actually working.

My Antec Truepower-PSU is as quiet as a whisper. And as far as I know they're cheap too. I'd recommend you the TruePower 750w. The only time I hear it is when booting the system. Even the systemfans (Antec Tri-Cool) are louder. :)

The Antec Truepower Quattro. Yes, I couldn’t choose between that and the Enermax Galaxy but went with the galaxy because the Truepower only had the one 80mm fan so was worried about noise.

I have heard good things about the ThermalTake 750W ToughPower W0117RB but the make is putting me off.

How about the Zalman ZM850-HP ?

Got 850 Watts

And its very much close to unhearable.

Read several reviews and it's almost only positive things.

Seasonic

SEASONIC. I am a self confessed noise freak. I have 2 computers running on either side of me and the psu fan noise niggled me into frustration. I have ordered differing recommended makes of power supply and returned them because of the fan noise, finally settling for SEASONIC power supplies. These babies are quiet and I mean quiet!!!

Yes they are indeed very quiet, but finding one that delivers more than 700W is also very costly. Roughly double the price of other reasonable PSU's.

I have decided for the time being to sell the Enermax and put my old Corsair 520 back in (which i already have done). The corsair runs quite warm but i can live with that for now. I will keep an eye out for offers on the Seasonic, or Antec Truepower though, but i am in no rush to buy anymore.

Thanks for your replies.

i use Thermal Take toughpower 750 wat <-- very good and no noise at all(only bad thing in this psu is the price)

Corsair TX750, I got myself a HX520W and HX620, the fan what they are using is inaudible, not sure if they used the same fans in the TX750, do a lil abit research, besides it is a sollid reliable unit, cant go wrong with corsair
