Where in the US

A friend of mine is travelling to the US next week (or possibly the week after) and has asked me if, given the current exchange rate £:$, I would like him to get me any toys.

Given that I have just spent a

load of money on new toys I am having difficulty figuring out what, if any, toys I am short of.

The only thing I could think of was TWIN2X2048-6400C4D - Corsair 2 * 1GB Dominator RAM (4-4-4-12) to match an existing 2GB in one of my new computers.

So I had a look at 3 US based retailers. Newegg, Tigerdirect & Outpost

Prices were $215 (-$40 Rebate), $249 (-$40 Rebate), $249 (-$80 Rebate). Outpost may have got something wrong - or maybe not.

This rebate crap is more effort than I am prepared to ask my friend to go to as he's only in the US for a few days. Also the rebate is about to end as far as I can tell (4-5 days).

The UK price, from Scan, is £129+VAT = £152 =^= $260 or $300 (before / after blasted tax) :cussing: :cussing: :cussing:

Can anyone suggest anywhere better than the above sites? My friend is non technical so I have to tell him exactly what to get and from where otherwise I'll end up with some PC133 SDRAM because it was close enough..............

Dont get from Outpost dude. Thats Frys Electronics site for their delivery or w/e. The prices on their website are NOT from the store and their delivery usualy takes a few days. Not only that the rebates from their are mail in and not direct. Best place here in the US is Newegg.com and Zipzoomfly.com. As far as i know the rebates on newegg are instant.

Pricewize I dunno, some of these places have further discount and rebate offers week to week.

Manager discounts are one thing, but if Frys - or CompUSA have a rebate offer it can often be mail-in >.< I`ve had one of those take about a month to go thru.

Purchase from Newegg, they have great support and fast shipping. Usually they have a fair price as well.

Their rebates aren't always instant you need to check up on that and see if it's a MIR.

zipzoomfly seem the best price with newegg a very close second.
