Where can I find my PLL on my mobo?

Hi all,

I'm going to give clockgen a try as my mobo will not allow any tampering with the bios (stupid fujitsu-semens gigabyte mobo!).

It tells me I need to identify the PLL. so where abouts on the mobo should I be shining the torch to look for this sucker? What's it going to look like?

Cheers

Well PLL's come in two different flavors as far as style goes. The first is the "metal can" style (kind of like a capacitator) and I would imagine this is not the style used on motherboards. The second style is the "Dual In-Line" style which looks like a standard IC and more than likely will have 7 contacts on each side of it.

So to get started I would just look around your motherboard for a dual in-line IC w/ 14 contacts. If you have more than one then you will need to do some research and figure out which is the right one. If you can't find any with 14 "feet" then your mobo uses a "non standard" PLL and it could get a bit more tricky. Some common PLL makers are Motorola, Signetics, National, and NTE Electronics. See if you can spot any IC's with those names on them.

Good luck!!

If it helps the PLL always has a 14.3xxMHz crystal next to it...

I have no idea what that is - is it like a flux capacitor? I saw a ICS chip that said 952000 on it so I tried PLL 952505, but my machine froze when I applied a very small overclock.

I think because it's a fujitsu-semens they have done something to stop you overclocking it - it has a special mobo and has the FSM and multipliers disabled in the BIOS :(

The avatar is from the Rotten Trolls :) It looked better before the new site colours, but now it has a white outline.

well try an OC as small as you can, like the lowest increment possible. if this doesnt work then you have the wrong number (or like you said its locked). is buying a new motherboard out of the question? im sure you could pick up something suitable for peanuts

what model of motherboard do you have mr_fishbulb? Perhaps if we know the motherboard and make of BIOS, we can start to help pinpointing you in the right direction. Otherwise perhaps buy a new mobo :)

Cheers guys.

I'll find the exact model number when I get home this evening, but it's a Gigabyte custom one for Fujitsu-Siemens (can't even find it on the Gigabyte website).

I could get a new mobo, but I think I might build a new machine towards the end of the year so I'll save the cash and put it towards that :)
