whats needed more core clock speeds or memory speeds

in a graphics card what speed is more important the memory or the core clock speed

I would say architecture and number of pipelines, then core speed, then memory speed. :D

core will see more of a performance increase.

ahh yeah well then if like core is more important than like ram why do i see like 6800's with uunder 500core clock speed and there ram clocked at over 1000? that confuses me

They do completely different things, don't be confused by the number ;)

Overclocking the core will get more performance out of the card than overclocking the memory though.

they are not relative. well tbh yes they are.

gfx ram is just like normal ddr ram. operates at double the core speed. so for example stock would be 500/1000. but the memory is ddr so it is really 500/500.
