What's happening?

Hi all,

I've been out of the game for a while due to uni and haven't been keeping track of what's going on technology wise for a year or so. I've got a rig which is coming up to a couple of years old now. I've a got Q6600 dealing with processing stuff and an 8800 GT but really I'm looking to upgrade the gpu to something a good deal faster and maybe a little less power hungry. When I came to look at graphics cards they all seem, well... underwhelming to awful. And expensive. Take the 4890, it would cost £160 about a year ago, similar cards are still the same price today?!

In short.. Is there anything new/revolutionary coming on the market soon to force the price down or is it looking like £200 for a fairly minimal upgrade?

Cheers!

a 5850 would be a good upgrade from a 8800gt and is around the £220, look at some reviews and decide if its worth the upgrade for yourself, im still going strong with my 8800gt but im planning to get a 5850/5870 in a few months once i get a new monitor.

I've had a look at the 5770 which looks good for £130 and while it beats my 8800 it hardly makes it look ancient. It still doesn't really offer big screen playable rates either.. It just seems like the technology is moving at a seriously sluggish rate. Are there any mid-range nvidia gpu's in the pipeline, Hunta?

We all need to remember a thing called inflation, but even with that marginal increase and 8800GT was over £200 on release day, I paid £180 for my one I used in Heaven & Hell many moons ago.
