Seeing as you guys seem so friendly and pretty knowledgable too, maybe you can help with my dilemma.
My mobo seems to have died, due to attempting to flash the bios, it's an early board on first release of bios so I don't have cpu multiplier, oc'ing so far has failed as not having cpu multi my only option is to up the fsb. Upping the fsb screws the raid on the via controller so it won't boot to windows and reports broken raid array, think this is as the via is on the fsb and doesn't like the higher frequency. Maybe using the Promise controller would change this but drivers won't work with this bios release, at least not for me, so catch 22.
So more recent version of bios, with cpu multiplier, is the only sensible option but flashing it yesterday resulted in failure, there are known problems with flashing this board, had to recover by resetting cmos. Todays attempt to flash during post with bios on a floppy has resulted in catastrophic failure. Clearing cmos won't recover it, tried several times, and no sign of life anywhere.
So, guess I can either get a pre-flashed chip, hope that'll work and put up with a board with issues and no guarantee it'll work, or get some new bits.
So, would you:-
a) get a flashed chip, if so where from in the UK?
b) get a new s754 mobo, if so which one is best for oc'ing?
c) whilst doing a full rebuild why not go s939, if so which cpu and which mobo?
p.s. I know you'll shout fx53 but they're a bit steep at the mo.
Many thanks in advance
