what water pump

Depending on your personal preferences I'd get either:

Eheim 1250 (which is very powerful, had one for the past few months but due to its power, you need to dampen it to reduce vibration! Also, this pump needs to be plugged directly into the mains.

DangerDen D4 12v. I've just ordered this pump to replace my Eheim 1250, probably not quite as powerful (but still very powerful) the pump is a LOT smaller, vibrates a lot less, is quieter in general and due to the fact its powered by a 12v molex its possible to limit voltage via a rheobus.

sorry mate but the DD4 is a very whiney / noisy pump, I had two & had to get rid of them, couldn't stand the noise any more , they are a bit more powerfull than 1250's but ARRGGHHHH at the noise they make.

Were yours the 12v versions? A friend of mine has one (hence me getting one too) and I never noticed a whining noise (and I have sensitive hearing :P)

yup they were the 12v

& they sound bloody awfull, really annoying sound not like a low rumble or anything but more a buzzing noise, they can be quitened down on a rheobus but whats the point all you do is reduce the flow. I know lots of people with them & none of them would describe them as silent.

The DDC pumps are quiet 12v pumps but they are having stalling problems :eek: so probably a good idea to stay away until they are resolved.

hmmm that is worrying, lets hope I don’t get that issue as that’s why I moved away from Eheim (noise due to vibrating :P)

I'm still using my Rev 1 CSP 250's (dual config) on my 6800 in my XP rig, and they are the nuts, so looking into the Rev 2.0s might be an idea if you want to go small :)

Yeah just wack a bit of foam underneath the 1250 and voila - silence. Could try the aquaextreme 12v pump - although it may be the same as the 12v DD one jujst different name.

The AQX 50z is a totally different pump to the DD12v aka mcp650

the AQX is a renamed/rebadged swiftech mcp600 rev2, i.e the reccomended pump by cathar, i use a oversized barb version of the AQX and its an awesome pump, and very quiet too

if your on the look out for a new pump id get a AQX 50z from cooltechnica or a swiftech mcp350, the 350 cant produce the flow of the AQX but the head pressure it produces is massive for its small size, it peroduces mroe head than the 1250 and thus much better for forcing water through restrictive blocks. Its also near silent and with the flow mod produces slightly more flow than a AQX

basically:

US= AQX

UK= mcp350 and if you dont mind losing a warranty flow mod

Where can you get them? I ordered a lot from the US recently but no where had them in stock :(

Cheers BAcon (is that bacon as in the food stuff or does BA stand for something and you're a con? British airways con? hmm, maybe not..) this was were I originally was going to buy it but they were out of stock - looks like they will be getting them in shortly though :)
