what to do?

let me get straight to the point, i want WC my system (cpu+gpu) in december. so currently i have a 580 matrix and to WC it i would need to use a universal block and mod the heck out of the cooler to still have the fans blowing over the memory/mosfet's. OR i can sell/trade my matrix for a reference pcb 580 and just get a normal full cover block.

i am asking this now because there is someone who wants to trade my his PNY gtx580 (a reference card) + 50 Canadian dollars for my matrix. (btw a full cover block is like 100 here and the universal ones are about 70 something)

so should i trade and make my life easier? (my concern is: Is PNY a good reliable company??)

so should i keep my matrix and go for modding? (this will be harder, and it will limit my ability to ever sli the card, since it take up too much space, because i still need the fans on it....)

let me know what you would do if you were in my position.

thanks

any help / suggestions anybody? would really appreciate it

Personally I'd take the trade. PNY is a well-known brand. But is the seller trustworthy?

I have reached the point that I don't buy GPUs or motherboards unless a water block is available. I can't imagine running a GPU without a full cover; it's just messy.

thanks so much for your input and addressing my concerns about PNY as a brand.

the seller is unknown to me, but as part of the agreement he will be coming over so we can both test the cards ( i know mine works fine, but just to show him) and of course i need to test his out to see if it all in working order.

can you guys tell me what to look for if i go through with the deal? l am assuming it will be dusty, haha, but other then running unigen and maybe 3d mark what else can i do to test out the card? (oh i might ask him if he's not to too much of a rush to let me fold and see the ppd)

Can't really lend any pointers. Physical condition (beyond obvious melted caps etc) is slightly irrelevant since you're planning to water cool. I'd check for screw wear that might denote that the cooler has been removed at some point, and ask why. Same with warranty sticker. Testing it on a board is the important thing. He might get a bit bored waiting for a folding exercise. And you're always a bit uncomfortable in someone else's home. If you want him to chill for a bit, order a pizza before he shows up. Don't make your home too clean. Keep the chloroform out of sight until he's distracted. Keep a few lengths of rope here and there in drawers with easy access. If he's driving, make sure there's room in your garage for the car. Common sense stuff.

HAHAHA your funny, but you didn't mention what to do with the evidence when i'm done?

kk thanks for the tips about the screws and the warranty sticker. as for folding, i was just thinking maybe wait 5-10 min because usually thats enough to get a ppd count.
