What Sata 3 SSD?

Hi guys,

I just bought an OCZ 60GB Agility 3 SSD - SATA-III but I have read that its not as fast as the competition.

The drive hasnt been shipped yet so I have a chance to change it for any of the ones below. I would really appreciate any advice of what one you would get and a really short description of why?

Thank you!!

As long as the drive performs as it should, don't think you'll have any problems performance wise with it. Just make sure you use a sata III cable to connect it.

With further reading, I have to agree that most people are saying the OCZ drives are very good indeed and extremely fast. The reviews I read slating them, the reviewer was actually using the drive they were saying was so much better than the OCZ lol.

I'll stick to TTL reviews in future, he says how it is.

Personally if I were building a rig right now I would get 2 vertex 3 60 gb & raid them. I currently have 2 * vertex 2 raided & they are brilliant. I know its OTT but if I had the funds that's what I would do...

The OCZ Agility 3 and Vertex 3 drives are very fast, but they do have their share of issues at the moment. Thankfully OCZ is pumping out FW updates like crazy to sort it. They released 2.09 today, which appears to help but it is too early to say if it helps the main crop of people with issues.

The Agility 3 is an excellent buy, especially at eBuyers prices, the difference between it and the Vertex 3 can only be seen in benchmarks, which you shouldn't do too many of as it cripples SF drive performance.

If it was my money I'd go Agility 3, having owned both there isn't much between them. So in short, you've made the right call unless you want more storage, which would make the 120GB version a better value (£1.42/GB vs £1.58/GB on the 60GB). I've also heard whispers that the 120GB is a loss leader, so that price won't stay at £170 for ever. Or as sheroo mentions you could keep the 60GB with the option of getting a second and Raid 0 them for extra storage/performance!

I bought an OCZ 60gb Solid 3 SSD, I am only running it on SATA 2 at the sec as it was bought in preparation for my new build. I am still getting 250/write and 273/read thou.

Was pretty happy with that as I thought I might get less on SATA 2, its slighty faster than the OCZ 60gb Vertex 2 drive I have just sold to a freind.

Although I am not a big fan of OCZ there SSD drives are very good imho

I plan to buy another and put them in RAID0 for my new build!

Good luck

I got the Agility 3 60GB in the end. I plan on having it for my OS drive, I will have a second 120GB Agility 3 for Flight Simulator X and a 1TB WD Black Sata III for storage.

The more I read about OCZ drives, the happier I get with my purchase. Apart from the firmware updates needed, they are rated highly all over the interweb.

I dont think you will be disappointed, like stated before if you start running out of space you can buy another and put them in RAID0

Enjoy!
