So I atm I'm doing a new build and will most likely get the 4670k or the 4770k. the question is, I'm doing game design at Uni so should I get the 4770k or save some money and get the 4670k, the major I'm doing involves world design, quest level design and other stuff like that
I'm going with the K cause I want to overclock as well

The 4670k is an i5 and the 4770k is an i7 right?

I think the general consensus is an i5 is perfect for gaming, and the saved money could be put into an SSD/better GPU. However, if you're going to be doing much video editing/rendering, then the i7 is a better choice.

So, gaming with some rendering -> i5 4670k, rendering with some gaming -> i7 4770k.

Try asking your professor what kind of workload your system is likely to be put through? Or, if your uni has its own kinda forum, try finding out from those doing the same course but a year ahead of you?

Otherwise i'm pretty much with Edge.

what engine are you learning with? I recently did a build for my friend who is doing a game design course and they're using UDK which doesn't make use of the hyper-threading well at all. I'm presuming its unity or UDK in which the i5 will do you fine and the i7 won't give much of a boost for the price.

If you're interested in what his build was it ended up being:
i5 4670 (non k due to no overclock wanted)
GTX 670 2gb- zotac boost edition which was cheap at the time
8gb xms3 ram
hyper 212 evo- not crucial but it means the cpu can run at 100% for a looong time without any worry of temps
Asrock 87 pro4
Fractal Define R4 BP
120gb evo ssd (OS and UDK)
2tb Baracuda HDD ( irregular games and files)
seasonic 750w bronze modular- bit too much power but it'll support sli which he wants to do eventually.
