So I'm buying a PC for gaming and I want to know of some good games to get me started on PC. Here's a list to narrow everything down.

CS: GO
Half Life 2 Orange Box
Left4Dead 2
Borderlands 2 ($30 on newegg)
Skyrim
Fallout NV
F.3.A.R.
BF3 Premium (Only full price on the list)
Sleeping Dogs
GTA IV

These are all of the games that I've been looking at so can anyone give me some adivice?

all depends on spec, and your liking;

from the list i suggest:

Borderlands 2
Skyrim
BF3 premium

the rest i would have gotten as classic titles ares:

oranagebox
l4d2
gtaIV
and you fallout 3 and NV

you might also consider some cheap casual games such as Minecraft, terraria, Portal 1 and 2.

unless you are a hardcore fps person i wouldnt even bother getting cs

You gotta play Half Life 2. No self respecting gamer can call himself a gamer if he doesnt own and hasnt played Half Life 2. That game was just brilliant.

Crysis is also another must have because it was and kinda still is the graphic benchmark game. Also its a pretty cool game.

Forget F3AR and get the first FEAR. That game is awesome and all kinds of creepy. Yeah its graphics are dated but the game play is still smooth and the chills and creep outs are well worth it.

Bioshock. The atmosphere alone is worth it. I spent the first hour playing that game just wandering around looking at the scenery.

Your missing one very important game the best game of the franchise yet if you don't have it AC3

My advice wait for the steam christmas sale. They do big discounts on a lot of games and bundles at christmas. You will get a lot stuff for the money you will spend on those games now.

The general rule when buying in the steam sale is do not buy a game unless it is on a daily deal or it is the last day of the sale. The exception to the rules are if its 75% or more of a discount.

You should be able to pick up the orange box for more than 50% off and they should have discounts on other games like sleeping dogs. The steam sales get so ridiculous that you start picking up games because they are so cheap and it wouldn't matter if they arent all that good.

As for what to play here is a list of games you should look at and consider.

Half life 1 and 2 and the episodes
cs:go
battlefield 3
sleeping dogs
far cry 3
deus ex
batman arkham city and asylum
bioshock
tf2 which is free
left for dead
limbo
portal 1 and 2
terraria which you can set up a server on your pc and play with friends as it is such a small game and it will be dirt cheap in the sale
warhammer space marine and dawn of war. I got this bundle in the summer sale for next to nothing.
skyrim

There are loads of good games and there are places where you can get them very cheap be it steam during the sales or gog or cjs keys etc.

just look around and dont accept full price as you can probably get it cheap somewhere.

Fallout 3 > NV without doubt
Orange Box because Half Life and TF2 make me j1zz
GO because CS
L4D Cus its so much fun

From that list I like GTA IV and Half-Life 2. The rest not so much, but then again I'm not really into shooters or RPGs.

And speaking of GTA, there's a sale on Steam that might interest some people: Grand Theft Auto Complete Pack for just 7.49 Euro ! :D
It includes: GTA, GTA 2, GTA III, GTA: Vice City, GTA: San Andreas, GTA IV and Episodes from Liberty City

Available until tonight ~19:00 CET, but it's a bit harder to get to it, because from the Today's Deals page the link takes you to a page that shows the individual GTA titles and the pack GTA IV: Complete Edition for 8.74 Euro (which only includes GTA IV and Episodes from Liberty City), but not the GTA Complete Pack (which includes all of them and is cheaper ), so just open the GTA IV page, then scroll it down and you'll see it there.

If you want post-apocalyptic atmosphere- definitely try out the STALKER series (which is dirt cheap now) and also Metro 2033!

STALKER is a bit rough around the edges but I promise you if you let the game world embrace you, you'll get an experience you've never seen before, especially if you add some gameplay-enhancing mods like the Complete mod or LURK (for Shadow of Chernobyl). But the first play through should be without mods IMO

Sleeping Dogs is a great game and will push any exsisting graphics card to its limits. It's worth the purchase just for the eye candy, but is a great GTA 4 type game without the super heavy focus on guns. Martial arts is the key.

How about playing a game just for fun without it needing to "push any existing graphics card to the limit"? Half Life 2 is number one, and then BF3. These two are in the top of my list.

If you have someone to play with, Borderlands 2 is a great game, though I wouldn't recommend it if you haven't played the first.

I'm playing F3AR with a friend (multiplayer Co-Op) and i'm pleasantly surprised. It seems like a well made game with good controls. Jumpy, though.

I'll tell you 4 games to play

Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3 and....... Far Cry 3 :D

Forget Crysis and Metro 2033, Far Cry 3 is the best looking game out there at the moment.
The gameplay is top notch and the game its self is huuage!! With plenty to see and do.

Yeah, thumbs up for FarCry3. :) And the previous 2 titles are not bad either. FarCry 1 is my favourite FPS of all time (IMO much better than Half-Life 2). FC2 was a bit annoying because of all those roadblocks and patrols that would keep on respawning and the "modern graphics" full of HDR, bloom and all that crap that everyone seems to be so fond of these days, but I still enjoyed it for it's open world GTA-like gameplay.

On the other hand Sleeping Dogs is waaay overrated IMO. The cars handle like shit, pardon my french, but I haven't played anything in the last decade with such bad handling. And the so called eye candy can be seen only as far as a couple of meters away. Anything beyond that is as blured and out of focus as seen by someone with severe myopia who forgot to put on his glasses. And I didn't care much for all that Jackie Chan fighting either. And this is coming from someone who loves open world games. I played all GTA games numerous times, even now I'm replaying Vice City, the only GTA that I only played once, and yeah, it's not quite as great as I remember it, it really shows it's age, but I still have more fun then I had in Sleeping Dogs. I just can't get enough of those radio stations.

That's one game I didn't mention since I'm already buying it.
