Weirdest thing

So i left my computer on all night folding and everything was fine, temps were under 60 finished a WU on both the CPU and the GPU and I just checked it in the morning, then after breakfast I went back to use my computer and it was in the bios!!! I was like wtf just happened so I pressed f10 to boot up and it said that there was no drive detected!! What the ____ ?!? sorry but I'm kinda pissed cuz it was fine for the last little while, and I've never heard of a comp turning off because there was no drive detected

Strange... is it working fine now or is the problem persisting? It could have been a one-off fault. I remember I turned my computer on once and it didn't detect the drive, all I had to do was remove the sata and the power cable, blow on the HDD a bit to remove the dust and re-insert them to make it work.

Could be a dodgy connection? But its strange because things don't usually move around in a case, but checking it might help anyway

Is this just the SSD or do you have a storage drive too? i.e did both fail to show?

i just have a the SSD, but i didn't touch any of the connections. So i just did as Kara suggested, i powered it off and then i turned off the power supply from the back, left it off for a while and then i just turned it back on now, and i'm typing this on it so yea... it workes now

So thanks for the help, but can you explain why this happened?

you guys are always so helpful

Did Windows error log report anything? Otherwise it might have been a one off, or perhaps a physical disconnection

probably a "one off" thing that you mentioned as i didn't touch the case or the cables in it (and the case hasn't been moved) before or after this happened.

as for windows, it hasn't given me any error it just seemed as if i powered it down manually or something.

as long as it is working, i'm good. i'll repost if this ever happens again

it was time for its tea and bisket break bro damn slave driver lmao

HAHAHA, well at least i'm glad that so far no-one has said that this is my fault for buying an OCZ (because i was trying to save money and cut corners) instead i'm slave driving my computer components

Ok so its been a little while since i updated anything on this thread, but i was trying to see if the problem would sort itself out.

Basically what i discribed before happened again, and when i powered off the machine i checked to make sure that all the connections are good, and they were (i just push and wiggled the sata cables to make sure) then it worked for a while, and then a few days later this happened again.

The weird thing is that it never happened when i was sitting in front of the machine, 1) first time it happened when i left it folding over night, 2) next time it happened when i just left prime running testing an OC while i had lunch 3) third time happened when i was NOT stressing the system, i was watching a show, and i paused it to use the washroom and then when i came back it was in the bios, and when i reset it said that not disk was found, so i just powered off the PSU and then when i turned it back on it everything was working fine....

Now i have a few questions about what i should do. Its been more then 2 weeks, so i'm not sure that i can return it to the store (maybe i can ask them for an exchange??) also i'm wondering, if i installed and actived windows on this drive, and i somehow do get a new ssd does that mean i have to buy a new windows or can i install the same copy of widows on my new drive?

thanks for the help and suggestions guys

p.s - or if you know something else i can try to fix the problem, so i don't have to go through the trouble of trying to get another would be great

Here are a few things you can try.

Clear cmos

Check Boot priority and make sure the operating system drive is !st priority.

Try a new Sata connector/ diferent sata port on the motherboard.

Then stress the hell out of it, just stay in the room this time lol

Is the SSD updated to the latest firmware ?

This is a known problem for the Vertex 3 I had it on mine too.

Updating to the latest firmware will do the trick.

Thanks for both of the replies.

Terrifictez: I'll give that a try and use another port/cable (both were bran new :S so if thats causing it i have shitty luck)

But i don't think 'stressing' it had anything to do with it as i have been folding for the passed two days on and off without any trouble

daantjuh: How do you check which firmware your drive has? and if its a known problem that you also had, can you tell me 1)how do i check (but i think mines not up to date since i never upgraded it)

2) HOW do you upgrade the firmware because on ocz website it said that for windows you can NOT use that tool they have if you have windows installed on the drive (which i do as it is the only drive in my rig, and my external drive isn't with me at the moment)

3) if you help me out and i do upgrade the firmware and loss everything on the drive, will the windows i had on it previously still work?

thanks again guys

You can use the OCZ toolbox to determine the firmware version installed on the drive. I had my windows installed on it as well, I had to upgrade it by installing a custom linux ISO made by OCZ on a usb drive and boot from that, within that linux rom it was possible to update the SSD.

If you have another computer somewhere in the house you could attach the ssd to the computer as another hard drive, because the computer doesnt boot from the SSD it should be possible to use the OCZ toolbox to update it.

I did not lose any files during the firmware upgrade, however I can not guarantee the same will happen to you.
