Weird Windows Problem!!

Okay, i´m having a really weird problem, and i´m clueless as what to do about it. Heeeeelp. When i´m running a program in windows (and it does the same thing with every single program, both nero, guild wars, coulterstrike, word etc.), my cpu usage runs wild. Sometimes it´s explorer that goes max, sometimes the program itself, and what´s really strange, is that when u look at the process of the program you´re running, you can see the memory usage count upwards!? It starts about 10.000KB-20.000KB, and then it starts to increase to over 500.000KB, and suddenly drops rapidly and do the whole thing over again... And the cpu usage stays at 99-100%...! This is the most ****ed up thing ever. I have reformatted twice, and it still does the same thing. This really sucks, ´cause i can´t really use my com in this state. I have scanned for spyware and virus, and there´s nothing of that stuff on my com. I really hope that some of you guys can help me out :(

Ps: I didn´t know where to put this Thread, that´s why it´s in here.

I'd try changing your RAM around if you can get hold of some, even if its only a 256mb stick .... ps - have you been clocking it?? If madly oc'ing it you could have burned your sticks out....

I've heard of this problem before, and where you say that you've formatted a couple of times, this points to hardware I'm afraid...

Does this problem start to happen as soon as you start Windows and open an application??

If so, it may be that your RAM is f00ked, and isn't handling data correctly and making your pagefile go ape and making your CPU load rise, or your CPU could possibly be having issues handling data from your RAM......................... where all apps are affected, it sounds like possibly one of the above :( (may be wrong though)

You should test your RAM in a mates machine if poss, and also your CPU if possible, I am positive this isn't a fault in your OS, as you've formatted... did you format it properly?? You can always try FDisk'ing it to properly wipe it, I know that sometimes a straight forward overwrite can sometimes leave corrupt data on your disk, although this is very unlikely....

Hawk: No i haven´t been overclocking it (don´t even know how to overclock lol). Well if it was hardware, then the problem would occur the first time i boot windows... But everytime I installed windows, it would run normal for about an hour, then go crazy. What is FDisk?? I´m gonna check the Ram, but it´s gonna be a couple of days b4 i can do that.

Dav0s: I have 2x 512 mb ddr pc3200 (200 mhz) ram. I can´t really make a note of the appz that´s not running like they should, ´cause ALL programs are doing the same thing! They make the cpu usage go up to 99-100% and they make the memory usage go nuts as well. :(

Thread moved over to the OS & Apps section.

Sounds like a major hardware issue if u have formatted twice and you're having the same problem. I'd start with your RAM. Take one stick out and test it, then take that one out and put the other in and test it. If the problem goes away with a particular stick in and then comes back with the other looks like u have found the root of evil.

Bad RAM can really make a computer go on the fritz.

Agreed. Download a tool that startsbefore you get anywhere near windows called: Memtest 86+

This tests for RAM stability.

You can then go into the BIOS and change you RAM timings/volts to get it to work :)

Why didn't i think of that? :p Nice one kemp!

I gave up on the memtest86 program... It ran for 14 hours straight, and still wasn´t complete. It didn´t show any errors, and i think that if my RAM was bad, then it would´ve found out after 14 hours... So´now I´m back at the beginning... Any ideas??

Stinky... I'd possibly think about the processor causing some issues with handling the data within Windows...... this is deffinately hardware mate, as you've formatted it so there is no data on the disks (Fdisking is an old surefire way of leaving no Windows registery files etc on the disk)

Is there any way that you can test your processor in someone else's machine?? Or a mates proccy in your machine?? Basically, swapping all the variables around 1 by 1 will get to the bottom of which part is fucked.... after the proccy, try the mobo possibly?? Could be having slight issues with the mem bus inside the OS???? Its a very long shot though...

PS - try these for Fdisk info, its basically a DOS and Windows tool thats used to prepare a hard disk for formatting by creating one main (or 'primary') partition on the disk.

Yeah i think i can try it out on one of my m8s com. I´m gonna try it within the next couple of days, and let u know how it turns out. Tnx a lot for the Fdisk links, gonna try that too ;) But i agree with u, that it´s most likely to be a hardware error, but i would prefer a software error, since it´s not expensive to fix hehe

Yeah, and in Denmark it´s a LOT of cash... Everything is expensive in Denmark. Geforce 6600GT 130£ and up.... Asus A8N-SLI Premium 125£... AMD ATHLON 64 x2 3800+ 260£... And we pay 40% + in taxes from the money we make, so we haven´t got a lot of money, AND it´s damn expensive. Weeee... Lovin´ Denmark... NOT! :bootyshak

Not much to scope i´m afraid. Just some boring buildings and a lot of rain lol But if u ever come around Aalborg (Denmarks 3rd largest city), then i´ll take u to a street with nothing but clubs (and i really mean a whole street with nothing but clubs), where the drinks are only 1$ a piece hehe :D Booze is the only thing that isn´t 2 expensive here lol

Download and burn the Ultimate bootdisk 3.3, there are a lot of good diag programs on there which may help in resolving the problem [url']http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/[/url]

Nice little proggy, repz!
