watercooling advice (noobie)

hi guys long time no see, am looking for help on watercooling as i have never do it before i thought i would ask some people that would no, well basically i have a v2000+2 that i just got but not wanting to do any cutting or modding on it, i have been looking at the swiftech kits as they seem to get lots of praise and seem to be aimed at the noobie and expert alike, now the 2 i have been looking at are a 120.1 and a 120.2 rad system but is it possible to get a 120.2 rad in a v2000 or on the back with out cutting or modding the case ie having the rad mounted on the back fan and having the pipes through a pci slot or am i better having the 120.1 mounting in the bottom section and losing the first hd section.

am currently running an amd 64 4000+ and have managed to get it to 2.7 on air in the winter but in summer am hitting 45 on default with an artic 64, is it wise for me to go on air or would i be better getting a different hs, if i did go on to water what temps could i get with it

thanks in advance

My advise would be get yourself a phase unit, unless you can chill the water which has its problems then the only way to get good clocks is using phase, when you add up the water cooling setup and other bits you may need there is not that much difference in cost from buying a phase unit which will last you which ever chip you buy and run and will out perform water cooling by as much as 10-20%. so speak to phill at EP-UK and find out more about your requirements.

already done phase m8 and i had some bad things happen so i dont really want to go down that route again :(

What kind of problems, they out perform water every way, yes you have to keep them serviced but they are reliable, if you are still looking at a water setup i would still say speak to phill as he can give the the best advise on setup

A decent water cooling loop can cost no more than £150, but I see what you`re saying about the 120.1 Vs 120.2

CustomPC did a test, and for each size up, there was either 3 or 6 degrees difference between load temp performance...ie...a 120.3 performed 6 or 12 degrees better than a 120.1 I`m thinking 6., so you should lose too much performance with the smaller rad.

Even with water, my temps are shy high, as the water is affected by the hot weather too, but its stilla lot better than an air cooler. A summer like this one where we actually HAVE sun (wow) is pretty useless for us, but water should let you squuze a bit more from your chip, and will offer a better idle-load temp variation..at least it should :)

If its water you`re after...Phil is the man :) Tho he uses quality components, not the slightly cheaper stuff I bought, so £150-£200 should see ya alright :)

the thing with the rads is that i can mount a 120.1 no prob in the bottom front section with no modding but if i go for the 120.1 i cant mount it in the case and i have to mount it on the outside at the back with the radbox the swiftech supply this on its own is no prob my only niggle with it is that all the pictures i have seen with this kind of setup is that they all have 2 holes cut for the tubes which am not will to do at present and am hoping that with the pci pass thru i can pass the tubing through with that :$

Thats cool. A 120.2 would look cooler, hung on the back with tubing running through the case, but the performance gain isnt massive. I`d say go with whats easier in this case. (Pun unintentional for once)

Cowboy would it be possible for you to send your case to ep-uk and let Phil mod it for you and install high end watercooling. I would prefer to stay on air rather than buy one of those kits mentioned.

not possible am afraid to say but if there are better coolers out there than the artic frezzer 64 then please help is needed currently have 2x 12x38mm ystechs and a 92mm tornado in the case so far so noise not a problem

as far as air goes..the Gigabyte G-Pro is meant to be pretty damn good, and the Tuniq Tower 120, though thats hard to get due to sudden demand, and just to make it worse...word from their techs is that their production line is broken at the mo.

I'm owner of Gigabyte G-Power Pro and as Kenny said it is damn good for air :D.
