I've been given some unique requirements for this revision to my current computer..
The College I've been accepted to requires that no student draws more than 650 watts from any single room at any given time, meaning I must scrap my old rig (Draws ~700 watts)
Any computing equipment may not be louder than 40 dba @ 5 feet distance. (I personally dont want anything higher than 28 dba)
as of 12/18/05, I will be heading to the nearest equipment store with a tape measure and some cardboard cutouts to see if everything will fit into a Q-pack.
What I want from you: Review it, convince me to go Full tower, bash me for watercooling a damned shuttle, or rather simply review my setup and give me confidence in the 2000 dollar purchase I may be making soon.
What else I want from you: buy my old computer. Best offer, not to be lower than $1450.
What I'm going for:
Active PFC Powersupply
Small form Factor case (fits on a 14 x 14 square)
Watercoooled case (not a step back from what I have)
exceptional upgradeability / Overclockability
Easy to move, transport, ship
Subtle WoW factor
What I'm staying away from:
SLI Graphics Cards
Integrated Graphics Cards
Powersupplies that burn more than 500 watts / hour
CRT Monitors (must fit in the space of a 24x24 picture frame)
Laptops (filthy, disgusting things)
Intel (IDLE 40 degrees non overclocked... no. never again.)
By assessing these needs, I believe my ideal computer would be a watercooled Aspire Q-pack Case. I plan on building the computer this December, but do not plan on adding any parts in untill the end of January, what with the (hopefully not) fabled release of the end all ATI king of graphics cards, and the decrease in price of the existing NVidia and ATI cards.
However, if I were to purchase the computer NOW:
BIOSTAR TForce6100-939 mATX - exceptional overclocking for size, chipset in correct place for once
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ - Athlon 64 X2 is complete overkill and this isnt.
ATI Radeon X1800XT 512MB - Its not $850, but it performs like it is.
Mushkin eXtreme Performance 1GB ddr500 (2x1gb) 3-3-2-8 - I love Mushkin like a brother after owning Black Lvl II ram
Creative Soundblaster X-FI - Not all hype, and I've had 2.1 sound long enough.
--
Western Digital Raptor 72gb 10,000 rpm (2xhd) - I'm already deaf beyond a certain frequency thanks to the two 36's I already have, so no skin off my nose
Liteon DVD-RW - small form factor dvd drive
SilverStone Strider ST60F 600W Active PFC - modular, pfc, intel approved, 600 watts.. I wonder whats wrong with it.
--
Swiftech MCRES-MICRO Small Form Factor / High-Flow Reservoir - little lovely..
Northwater xtreme water Xchanger - good waste of 20 dollars
Aspire X-QPack Aluminum Miniature case - I wish Lian Li made this...
Black Ice Extreme 1.120mm radiator - So cheap all of a sudden.
Black ICE Micro II 2.80mm Radiator - High pressure of 80mm + BiX radiator = win
Swiftech MCP350 Pump - Small enough to fit inside a Qpack with 2 radiators
(working CPU block)
(working GPU block)
Microcool NorthPole Chipset Cooler - a years ago I sincerely wished they made them for Intel.
Cheers - Ubermouser.
