Wanted Dedicated Push Talk Button On Keyboard

Instead of flashy things that not every one needs or wants why can't we get a dedicated push to talk key on the keyboard. We can then bind this to a mouse button for on the fly comms. So many times we bind communications to other keys or key strokes and it breaks the game immersion by making us couch or type random key strokes.

This would appeal to not only gamers, but video streamers as well. We have so many windows and programs open at once, it's not easy to find a key bind that does not affect something else.

Please Logitech, Corsair, and anyone else that has a keyboard line. Give us a dedicated push to talk key in a usable position for a FPS player.

Cant you just bind any key to push to talk? And most keyboard manufacturers have macro keys that you can bind to push to talk as well.

Can't say I've been effected by such things as I use a Samson Meteor with voice activation. But I can sort of see where your coming from, I could bind a button on my mouse as I have a few I don't use which would work flawlessly for Teamspeak push to talk, this would not detract from the experience too much.

Depends on your binding. May people have more than just a game open.

It's usually not pleasant for the other people to have someone with an open mic. Voice activation is good in theory, but many times is annoying in practice.

Most macro keys require you to bind other keys that are potentially in use. This can lead right back to the current problem. It's not a deticated key.

It doesn't exist because there is no market for it. Only a small percentage of PC gamers would use/need it.

Personally voice activation has always worked for me, regardless of headset/microphone cost/software and I've had a large variety of devices.

How about a voice activated push to talk key. Boom... Mind blown :D

A small discrete button below the spacebar could be a nice convenient place to have it. perfect access for the thumb. Or one to the left of the "leftshift" key for those MMO players bouncing around with their thumb on the space bar all the time.

For FPS players , below the space bar would be ideal for my gameplay style.

A lot of people feel the sting of double binding of keyboard commands, but never think to say anything about it. They just play and suffer with it, or might feel silly fit saying something about it.

I can see where you're coming from but I doubt they'd develop it. You'd need to have an extra key/button and that's okay it's easy enough but it would need to be able to be bound to whatever PTT key your software needs. Whether it's teamspeak or an ingame chat feature you'd still need to be able to bind it to whatever key activates it which leads us back to the 'just program a macro key' Unless they standardize it across all games/software you're back where you started from.

I have an ancient Logitech G510 and the G Keys can be bound to a macro or just a single button press. The only downside is the location is not ideal. I think a mouse button binding would probably be your best bet if you don't like voice activation.

You'd need to ha standardize it across all games/software

That's exactly what we need. As it is now, just about no matter what you do, you end up with a double binding between programs on some level. We need a standard button that nothing else will program too.

perhaps you could try a Roccat keyboard? they have extra keys below the space bar. never actually tried to get them to work with push to talk, might try this evening as the mrs uses the horrible Arvo compact
