hey guys, just a simple question reli, discarding my rig specs and money, is it worth to get vista yay or nay?

Personally, Nay ;)

I would wait until all the release flaws (if there are any) are sorted and companys release compatable drivers for all your hardware.

Like the current Nvidia vista drivers are supposed to be crap.

i have it on my works laptop already. Runs well, Just need to sort the realtek audio out. Thinking about dual-booting on my main pc.

I wouldn't bother (altho I'm trying to keep it off my system forever)

Vista Adoption Now... A Big Mistake?

I think it would be a good idea to wait a while, especially for business'. Mainly because of the problems seen when XP was released.

Luckily we stopped most companies from buying XP but a few bought it and it ended up costing them a lot of time and money to put the problems right. The main ones being with Sage Accounting software and other problems including drivers & networking :(

The people who have been really into vista already will probably buy it tho, which is fair enough if they like it.

There are some good points in the computerworld article. A lot of them are the same as XP back when it was released.

The main points being:

  • Microsoft is already planning its first service pack

  • ATi/AMD Catalyst Vista Software Driver is "beta"

  • Creative Soundblaster Drivers "beta" (some)

  • To get full value from Vista, you're probably going to want to buy a new, Vista-optimized PC

Microsofts Version of Apples Spotlight, not so good?

  • Vista's new indexed searching is great, but you'll need extra hard disk space for the index

I'm getting it not long after release, but only because I'm getting a new system. If I wasn't, then I'd at least wait until drivers came out fully, and even then I probably wouldn't get it unless either my uni gave it me free or I was upgrading.

I've got my copy of Vista Ultimate (perks of being a teacher), and it was worth it to me for a measly AUS$30 volume license fee. I would have bought a copy though, even if I hadn't had access to a volume license copy. Like Kemp I'll be dual booting until SP1 comes out anyway.

Im gonna wait till SP1 is out, DX10 and DX10 games are out, and drivers are fully compatible with Vista and the hardware.

Hit the nail on the head there PP;)

I'm waiting at least 6months until the manufacturers sort their drivers out.

Otherwise it'll have to be a dual boot jobbie.
