Vista has speech recognition hole

Microsoft has admitted that speech recognition features in Vista could be hijacked so that a PC tells itself to delete files or folders.

Vista can respond to vocal commands and concern has been raised about malicious audio on websites or sent via e-mail.

In one scenario outlined by users a MP3 file of voice instructions was used to tell the PC to delete documents.

lets be honest, who exactly has speech recognition turned on, with the mic next the speakers? i think this is a flaw with voice recognition in general, not vista.

Agreed, any voice recognition software that can be used to control the computer itself would be flawed in this manner, not just Vista's.

how would it know what the sound is going to be? how would it know if it was a valid sound or not?

But i would find it funny to create a website that tells their browser to direct them to some noddy sites.

It wouldn't that is just the point, if you are going to use voice recognition you can't have music playing or anything so just mute the sound.
