Very low writing scores, SSD - Samsung 840 Pro / 830

Hi.

I would like to ask you guys for some help with my SSDs.
This week I did some benchmark tests with Samsung Magician and AS-SSD and I found that both my SSDs are scoring really low on writing.

AS-SSD also gave me this same error with both SSDs:
"could not open device: \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE1"

My workstation configuration is:

• Asus P9X79 WS SKT 2011
• Intel Core I7 3930K 3.2GHZ 12MB
• Kingston PC3-17000 2133MHZ 32GB XMP Beast CL11 4X8GB DDR3
• EVGA GEFORCE GTX680 FTW+ 4GB GDDR5
• 2x WD Caviar BLACK 2TB 7200RPM 64MB SATA III (in RAID 1)
• 1x Samsung 256GB 840 Pro
• 1x Samsung 256GB 830
• Plextor PX-891SA 24X
• Corsair Obsidian 550D
• Seasonic P-860XP Platinum

I must say that I have my workstation in RAID mode so I can have two HDDs in RAID 1, and as I understood RAID "includes" AHCI so the SSDs should work properly at full velocity.

The drivers are fully updated, including the mobo BIOS. These are my last RST drivers and BIOS from Asus website:

Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology Driver Software V11.7.0.1013 with:
Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology enterprise Driver Software V3.7.0.1092 for Windows 7/8 32/64bit.

BIOS 4306 for P9X79 WS

I've found other people complaining about this problem in other forums but I could understand how to fix it.

Because youre running it on X79 basically. The later drivers are wank. I found the original windows drivers were best.

Mine in orca are in raid now and I dont seem to get any issues - 1GB/s read 900MB/s write now

So do you recommend installing old drivers? Or just remove the drivers at all and let windows manage it?

Its strange that I've been using the pc and didn't noticed low writings etc.. could this be just a question or wrong benchmarks scores but it's working properly even so?

Just take the drivers off you have and let windows put them back on again mate.

Im just assuming youve tested right and know what you are doing btw.

It could be yes but Tom has expeirence with this so listen to his advice on this first to see if it fixes the problem

Raid 0 is good

I have two 256gb Samsung 840 Pro SSD's in raid 0 on a Z77 board and so far so good

My Rig.....
Antec DF-30, Antec HGC 900w, Gigabyte Z77X-D3H, 3770K 4.5ghz,
16gb (2x8) G.Skill TridentX 2400mhz, 2x 256gb Samsung 840 Pro Raid 0,
2tb WD + 2tb Samsung Raid 0, Noctua NH-D14, MSI 7970,

Hi Tom, have you noticed a big difference in boot speeds with RAID0 SSDs?

I want RAID0 SSDs to use as a boot drive, but I was told on these forums it makes no difference over a single SSD as a boot drive, but looking at those reads you have I can't help but think otherwise.

boot speeds not a whole lot but overall performance yes. At least for me thats what I see.

I've seen a YT video where they RAID0'd 24 SSDs (lmao), and the boot was like a second (not actually), so there must be an improvement by at least doubling the number of SSDs from 1 to 2? And I'd imagine the more you add the lower the benefit each time like with GPUs, so the first time you add one, I still just can't imagine it not helping

You guys are talking about a completely different thing. Ehehe..

I have two SSDs with no raid configuration and two HDDs on RAID 1, and the problem is that my SSDs seem not to be working at max at all, at least in the benchmarks.

Yesterday I've tried what TOM said, remove RSTe drivers and let windows manage them but the benchmarks results where the same.

Wondering if a full system re-install will do the job or if i'll have all the work for nothing. I'll check if a cable change will do anything different..

I think raid must be your boot drives. I may be wrong and it most likely might not help but it's worth looking into.
