Valve has ended SteamVR support on macOS

There have been rumors of a gaming mac coming this year, I wonder if this is the reason? Apple must be working on there own gaming walled garden.

Apple has also been rumoured to be going ARM for a while too. Hard to know what Apple's plans are.

I can see Apple jumping on stronger AMD GPUs once they are made. Whether or not that creates a "gaming mac" is another thing entirely.

Well it certainly allows the possibility of them doing so. They've made Metal for their systems which allowed for better GPU utilization and other benefits over the OpenGL they used to use.

Even if not for gaming it would still help to have better GPUs for their software that can take advantage of it(namely video editing).

TBH, it's Apple's decision to avoid Nvidia that's held them back for so long.

The recent MacBooks with RX 5500 XT-based graphics are a big upgrade for them, as they have been left on Polaris for soo long. Vega mobile was made almost specifically for Apple, and the fact that almost nobody remembers Vega mobile speaks volumes.

Now that AMD's graphics prospects are looking better, the idea of a "gaming mac" is definitely a possibility. As you said, these macs will be for video editing, it's just that the GPU is strong enough for gaming as well.

How many years was it that Apple was stuck on AMD's RX 560 silicon?

The last time I gamed on a Mac (well, my hackintosh) it wasn't too bad. I was using a GTX 480, and older stuff ran well. At that time AMD wasn't supported, so even though I got a R290 in there it went a bit odd when you gamed on it.

I don't understand the concept of an Apple gaming PC though. If there's any truth to that it will be interesting to see just how hard it flops.

Macs are awesome computers but for gaming not so much. They are the best for video editing and photography and other work.

Gaming.....maybe for SOLITAIRE!!!!!
