i recently bought a sandisk cruzer micro 2Gb from morrisons for 20 quid, its a usb flash drive, but when i plug it into my vista pc, it wont work

it just comes up unrecognised device

so i clicked install drivers, it couldnt find any, so i searched through windows drivers, installed the generic usb flash driver, stil wouldnt recognise it as a flash drive

so i though, ok, fine, maybe the website can help

went to sandisk's website, they have plenty of drivers for windows 98, but NONE for vista...i mean wtf?!

so anyone who can help, it would be apreciated

btw, this flash drive works perfectly with XP, i tried it there after vista after it didnt work, delited all the crap on it, then put a few files on it, hoping that would coax vista into accepting it

it didnt :(

so any ideas people?

It's probably not much help to you but I can only suggest trying it in different USB ports, since my Cruzer is very fussy about which USB port I stick it in (and I'm using XP!). Maybe email Sandisk to see if they're working on Vista drivers if it's not supported natively?

Some of the San Disk Micro's are supposed to work under Vista and some are also able to be run as a Readyboost drive. I had no end of trouble with mine under XP, so I'd imagine that it would probably be worse under Vista. Although there may be an update available for Vista. Does Vista offer to help you find an a solution to the problem? If so let it have a crack at it as navigating their website is an exercise in patience to say the least. Failing that, it may be Vista having a problem with the U3 environment (if you have a U3 drive) and you trying to run it from somewhere other than the Administrator login...try there first (not by running as administrator from your personal login).

tried 4 different usb ports, from a hub, back of the pc, front of the pc, and in a card reader, didnt work....

how can i run somthing that isnt recognised as administrator?

it is a U3, but if its anything to do with all those folders on it, i used xp to completly format it, i just want a plain usb 2gb stick, ....

i will try sigining in as administrator...

ive got a sandisk drive on my vista install. the u3 doesn't work on 64bit vista. but its a 1gb so i just use it for ready boost

i would boot into xp and remove u3 and try again
