usb port disconnecting/reconnecting by itself.

Hey guys. Every now and then I'll be on the computer when I'll hear the sound of a usb port being disconnected and then reconnected when I hav'nt physically touched a usb port..

Because I have a fairly big table I've needed to get a usb extension cable to go from the keyboard to the computer could the extension cable be causing this? has this been a known problem of some sort?

As well as the problem of a usb port connecting/reconnecting itself I'm also experiencing a error message "Power surge on hub port error" thinking this might be linked.

Cheers.

some usb devices have a max that the device can operate properly at with extensions. My USB DVD burner is one. If I try and put anything over 3ft on it will behave erratically. If I go past 15inches I have issue like your experiencing. So I have a 8 inch cable on it and have to be super careful I don't knock it off lol

Maybe I'll look into taping it a little for a stronger connection but I don't think that's it, seemed fine last time I had a look at it. The usb cable itself is only a 1m extention and I've rolled it around itself so its not just hanging, meaning there wouldn't be a knick in the cable or anything.

Strange...

So I've just had a look at the back of my computer and I noticed that I have different USB ports such as:

- 3x USB Power (that's the actual name of the port)
- eSATA /3x USB Power (agian, thats the actual name of the port)
- USB 3.0

I would have just put them in whatever slot I first saw not actually paying attention of the port there going into

I've plugged all my USB cables into the USB 3.0 ports now.

Could this have been what could be creating the error messages for the usb power surge and the sounds of the computer reconnecting/disconnecting the usb sometimes without me physically doing it?

Cheers.
