Upgrading Win 8 laptop to Win 7

Hi everyone :)

I'm posting on behalf of a friend who is upgrading a Windows 8 laptop to Windows 7 for a family member. Neither of us have any experience with Windows 8, so we were wanting to know if there is any precautions or tips you could give us to ensure a smooth install. In case all goes wrong he's making a system restore image on a USB stick before beginning. Would it also be a good idea to install Windows 7 in a partition on the HDD rather than simply replacing Windows 8?

My friend has downloaded a complete set of Windows 7 drivers from the manufacturer's website, and is making a note of all the devices in Device Manager in case there are missing drivers after the install.

The laptop model is the Toshiba Satellite C55-A-1N1, product number PSCGJE.

Are there any obvious pitfalls here, or anything we may not have considered?
Thanks for any help guys.

First of all, I like how you called it an "upgrade". ;) I am currently running a windows 8 laptop (It came with W8). To be honest, once you update to 8.1, it's just fine. You can just boot to desktop, and as long as you've got the shortcuts under your belt, all is fine. It is actually slightly faster than windows 7.

Sorry, this isn't what you are looking for, but I figured, you may want to consider. Just my opinion. :P

That's okay, I knew people would suggest that :) It's not really our decision, his family member has requested it, so we're going to try do it :)
