Hey y'all, long time no see. After spending days pissing around with my current rig and still having problems, and finally having a bit of a reprieve from coursework, i;ve decided that i'm gonna do a bit of an overhaul. Basically I'm wondering if a move from a P4 2.8c to a 3500+ winnie is gonna yield a decent performance increase? Trying to keep the cost down, so not opted for the venice option unless it's gonna make a HUGE difference. What do you guys think?

Oh, i'm putting this on an Abit AV8 with 2x512 Corsair XMS4000 and a nice big copper air cooler (this phase-change game is a bit expensive for me at the mo).

You will not be disappointed with the winnie - plus there are plenty of cost effective watercooling options out there.

Video encoding takes a hit but u gain in 3d games, photo editing and superpi lol.

Change your ram for some BH5 and you'll be flying (AMD loves tight timings)

Good luck

Yes, the architecture of the AMD 64's seriously out perform intels, infact dual opterons at a lower spec outperform dual zeons. the way that AMD's have designed their chips are much more better than Intel's. Also the next windows OS's are looking at being 100% AMD, and not 100% intel like they have been doing. It's all because AMD's are best for games too.

alright mate, i did have a p4 2.4a overclocked to a max of 3,6ghz stable, this gave me around 4700 in pcmark04, with my venice core 3000 @ 2800 i get around 5200 marks. the amd64 chips are very fast, even at stock speeds but they all overclock so well that its a shame not to put them to work :P
