Hi All,
My current rig is used for the following, Sapien Powershell for scripting work that I do for gainful employment, Creative Cloud with Lightroom and Photoshop for RAW file editing (typically each image around 30MBs), some gaming (IL2: BOS, BOM, BOK, CLOD, 1946, Elite Dangerous, F1 (think I have them all dating back to Geoff Crammond's GP2) and typically office type stuff so Office 2016 with Project and Visio.
Current build:
Internals:
AMD FX8350 @ 4.8
Asus Sabertooth FX990 R3.0 (yeah, i'm one of the lunatics that bought one of these
)
16GB Gskill TridentX 1866
Asus R9 290
500GB Samsung 950 Pro Nvme
2 x Toshiba X300 4TB
Externals:
Lian-Li A70B
Lian-LI 4 Bay Hotswap for 4 x 3.5" Drives
2 x DDC 18W
EK Supremacy
EK R9 290 FC
EK Dual DDC V2 Top
EK 250 RES 2
XSPC RX 360
XSPC RX 240
be quiet P8 650W
11 x Noiseblocker PL2 fans
2 x Dell UP2516
Input:
SteelSeries Sensei
SteelSeries 7G
TrackIR 5
CH Products Hotas (Fighterstick, Pro Throttle, Pro Pedals)
So that is my starting point. I have decided to replace the Lian-Li with a Phanteks Enthoo Primo (its on its way) and the PSU with a be quiet P11 850W (also on its way) keep the cooling (rads, res & pumps) and the storage.
Updated:
Phanteks Enthoo Primo
be quiet! P11 850W
2 x XSPC RX (v2 and v3) 360mm Rads (Top and Bottom)
XSPC RX v3 240mm Rad (Front)
2 x DDC 18W under a EK Dual Top + Res
500GB Samsung 950 Pro Nvme
2 x 4TB Toshiba 4TB in RAID1
2 x Dell UP2516 WQHD monitors
I'm happy with storage speed and my ability to cool and power what I have in mind.
FX8350 >> ThreadRipper 1900
The 1900 will be coming in at sub €£600 and will have the extra memory channels to open up Ryzen performance + the all important extra PCIe lanes.
Gskill TridentX >> Gskill TridentZ 3200 C14 (4 x 8GB)
As far as I can see the TridentZ's are nicely matched with the AM4 platform and cannot see any reason why this won't continue onto TR4 + the press kits seem to have these bundled too. Enough said.
R9 290 >> RX Vega64
Generational upgrade. Won't be going 4K for another few years and this should be more than capable. Getting hold of one before the miners will be the issue.
Asus Sabertooth FX990 R3 >> Asus Prime x399A
Have never had an issue with any Asus boards, so will carry on. The Strix x399 has better sound and the Extreme is lula money.
How does that look?
