Hey,

i am in despair, i have an intel G3258 unlocked cpu and before my recent win upgrade i had a loverly 4.4ghz stable oc, now i can not overclock, i have an Asrock h97m pro4 board and no matter how i change the bios or use the asrock utility i am stuck at stock speeds....., now i am in the process of looking at upgrading my rig but i was happy with the performance i am a light gamer, and mainly photoshop and video editing.

so do i upgrade my board first to z97 chipset or save for an i5 k processor, i have about 90 quid to hand i can chuck at some hardware to get my overclock back... any ideas ?

Was it the windows 10 upgrade? or fresh install? I've read about win 10 upgrade borking the UEFI.

it was a fresh install i managed to get it to install with both cores active just not the overclock, so now im wondering what to do ?, as i am looking at building an itx custom water cooled rig in the near future but i want my overclock back lol

As far as I can see with a quick google, you are not the only one having issues with Win 10 and the G3258 it apparently has something to do with the mcupdate_GenuineIntel.dll and a faulty microcode which Microsoft are claiming they are in the process of fixing.

There is one thing you can try in the mean time.

If you are looking at upgrading your rig I would start with your cpu as long as your motherboard will support an i5 as thats quite an expensive piece of kit I paid £183 delivered for my i5 4690K two days ago but let us know if you need any help mate :)

yeah i was considering that or a skylake build later in the year but for the moment just want the extra back lol, makes a massive difference

Unless Win 10 has a feature you just can't do without I'd roll it back to 7 or 8 or whatever you were running before if it really makes that much of a difference to your productivity.

You can always move back to 10 when ASRock or Microsoft have the issue sorted.

Screw it think I might just upgrade now, I can always start with the cpu , cheers for the help guys

you are welcome shop around for your CPU the prices can differ a lot I got mine from aria but it depends on which Intel chip you want :)

Not sure yet prob do some more research then jump on sky lake or stick with has well think I want an rog board

Tbh I only use Asus boards as I am so used to their UEFI bios and my motto is stick to what you know :). Not that I have anything against other manufacturers its just my preference ^_^
