Hi,
im wanting to update my computer im running at present intel core 2 quad q6600 socket 775 lga motherboard asus p5q-pro
memory 4 gbytes cosair ddr2 single memory, graphics card geforce gtx660 memory 2048 with a 500w psu, all in a antec nine hundred case.

Ive only about 425 pounds to spend on a new mother board cpu and 8 gb of memory
Ive been looking at the

MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING MOTHERBOARD YOU PRICE
INTEL I7 – 4790K CPU
AND I WILL NEED 8GB OF MEMORY

Can you tell me if what ive picked his compatable with each other ?
I have a artic cooler in my old system which i could re use with a sata 2 hard drive
Until i can afford another hard drive.
What do you advise for memory ?

Look forward to your reply, i do 90% of gaming, been looking on ebay but the mobo's on there look really cheap and i would much rather get my info off here .

The computer above as served me for 7 years and would like to think that this new mobo would be ok for that long.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Firstly you would only need an i5, so 4690, or 4690k as with gaming the hyperthreading on i7 would be a waste as they wouldnt really get used.

Yes the motherboard and cpu are compatable, as for memory;

or

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-...4900-(1866)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-9-10-9-27-

would work well amd you would really need anything more than 1866 on it, but the 2400 is the same price, so personally I would get that instead.

If your PC is 7 yo, I would advice you to see if your PSU is compatible with Haswell too but I doubt it will. Had a Dark Power Pro P7 that is from 2007 and refuses to power on with my Z97 setup. I totally agree with Youwhat concerning the other components.
