Unlocked Phenom 9600 Black Edition CPU

AMD still cant avoid the fact that the Core Quad is faster, cheaper and no bugs at present though

It is our understanding that these Phenoms still contain the errata (bug) which causes a decrease in performance by up to 20% when the BIOS fix/patch is applied, according to benchmark data provided by TechReport on December 6, 2007. The errata reportedly relates to the TLB (translation lookaside buffer, a type of high-speed "scratch pad" for keeping crucial internal data close to the core), as well as a portion of the L2 to L3 cache data exchange. There are also reported software patches for operating systems with source code, like Linux, which include a software workaround that will negate the performance hit. The OS requires a recompile and can be deployed.

Don`t quite understand this. The TLB was reported holding up the release on Nov 18. It was supposedly "fixed", then came the release.

However, with this conflicting informations, there are patches out already as the likes of Hexus use them/it during their testing of their 9900.

Don`t think this sorta thing is something that would or should bias an AMD-ite from considering AMD`s quads for their next upgrade. They should bare in mind the "optimization" and etc (realname - PATCHES), they`ve had to use with x2 on occasion.

The patch that is out now prevents the TLB bug from crashing the whole system. But it does so at about 10% performance loss. There are stepping B3 chips on the way for Q1 08 that will really fix the bug in hardware without performance loss.
