Unhappy with WC Temperatures

I've been very happy with the temperatures I've been getting with my new watercooling setup until recently.

Ambient temperatures have only rised 1.5c over the past few weeks, but my temperatures have increased 2 fold.

Ever since installing the 8800gtx I've noticed that the motherboard temps have increased to 46c from around 39c. The card is sitting next to a part of my loop too which doesn't help, as the stock GTX cooler doesn't do a great job of expelling hot air out of the case.

My case is the P182, using standard lower chamber fan, standard rear, and standard top (but switched around ie. pulling air in), as well as another yate loon running at 12v in the centre front compartment. Above the upper fan is my PA120.3 with another 3 yate loons blowing down into the case at 12v.

Watercooling setup is:

Swiftech MCP655

Thermochill PA120.3 with 3 Yate Loons @ 12v

D-Tek Fuzion

1/2" Diameter Tubing

10% coolant to 90% deionized water mix & 2 drops of anti algae stuff

My Opty 170 has always been HOT, but I'm now only seeing temp improvements from my Tuniq Tower 120 of 3c or so at full load.

Any ideas what will be causing this?

Could the addition of the GTX really influence my WC that much even when it's not in the loop?

well if the 8800 is the only thing you changed in it recently it must be causeing the temp rise,i guess its getting toasty and making the ambient case temp higher.

Raging.

My t-line pipe touches brushes the edge/side of the card. The card idles at 69c during these warmer days, so I do wonder how much heat is actually being dumped into the loop, without it being in the loop.

I wanted a quiet watercooling setup, so I thought by using a large rad and quieter & lower cfm fans would be a compromise between performance and noise.

Does anyone know of a better & proven cooler or way of getting rid of the heat thats coming from the graphics card?

hot air goes up, thus its the 8800 thats heating the rad up not the t-line h/e its not helping it either. idk what you could do but put a fan over the 8800 maybe. or like ham said get some deltas on that rad, might be a lil loud thou

I forgot to mention that although the rad is mounted on top of the case, there are no blow holes cut in the top. It's raised approx 3/4" off the top, so there's a bit of air flow under the rad.

Top of the GTX is getting air from the downward pointing top fan. Its the rest of the card thats getting toasty :(

Well, it wouldn't hurt to add some blow holes up top, just a bit of dremeling. Or even if you have the power, adding the 8800 to your loop would be nice.

I'm really tempted to add the GTX to the loop. From what I can gather though, I'd need significantly more powerful fans to handle both the hot opty & GTX.

Anybody know how much heat the GTX will dump into a waterloop?

A nice chunk, if you do that, you will have to add blow holes at least. I think blow holes alone, will be sufficient for the proccy, if that's all you really want.

well according to the amount of power it need to power it about 140W.

This is a very rough figure.

Rob

Do you think a hot CPU & the 140w from the GTX will be too much for the PA120.3?

I did another rough calculation with your opy at 3ghz not shure how much your have overclocked.

And the calculator said around 360W which is a easily displaceable by the mighty pa 120.3 (I found some data here)

Hope this helps.

Reps to you! Thats a fantastic find!

Althought my hot 170 is only running 2.5ghz, I'm glad you did a calculation for 3ghz, as it gives me extra headroom. I'm sure mine is running much hotter than a normal 170 at 2.5!

So am I right to assume that I should be looking at Panaflo's or Delta's (which have already been suggested:D )

Hopefully with these wired up to a fan controller, they won't be too noisy at night. My yate loons at 12v are just about acceptable!

Sorry to double post, but the golfball 2000 look to be a popular choice, if you dont mind spending around £12.

Thats a very good read. Is it me, or do the fans listed in the original post not mate up with the fans that were tested?

I'm very tempted by the Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000 120mm, as well as delta wfb1212m's.

Can't seem to find anywhere in the UK that sell the Delta's.

What would you guys go for out of the 2 above? I'd need 3 of them, and will be attached to a fan controller (7v-12v), and I would like a balance between performance and noise.

They need to be better performance than the yate loons too, as I want to dissipate around 360w of heat

Im not shure where the delta are for sale here in the uk either, it would be interesting to know though, as a comprassison on price to the skarkoons.
