Undervolting Q6600 Help

Hello all.

My setup is a Q6600, b3 stepping, and a 680i sli motherboard.

My q6600 is set to default speed (2.4ghz) and while gaming(and while it's warm in the house) all four cores starts to get around 60C, which i heard is too hot for these cpu's. So i thought, i'd lower the voltage a tiddle to see if i could get it any cooler.

All of my Voltages are set to [AUTO] but according to my Bios System Monitor,

the vcore runs at 1.24. The clock speeds are also all [AUTO]

I dropped it down to 1.20 on bios, and in the monitor it said it was 1.15. After that, i booted up and noticed quite a decent decrease in temperatures.

I'm wondering..How far would i be able to drop the voltage and still have the cpu function normally and stable? I don't feel right modding the voltages as i do not know enough about it.

Thanks in advance!

Late edit;

My pc is a pre-built, and i don't know how to take the cooler off, or else i would. It is a water cooler, with 4 black screw-like pins on them. I've removed the 4 pins, which releases the fan, but i'm guessing the copper block under the fan is attatched via backplate, so removing it is going to be my last resort.

If 60 degrees isn't bad for a Q6600, then just tell me to shut up and stop being paranoid. :P

60c on load is perfectly fine?

Oooooo hang on says your on water?? What kind of water cooling are running? at stock 60c is far too hot for water..

It's a pre-built, so i dunno, it's a piece, but..thankfully..

The voltage in bios for vcore is 1.08, and i ran about an hour of prime95, and none of the four cores ever went over 50C, idle i'm aroind 28, is this dangerous?

That’s absurd! Perhaps I’m misinterpreting what you are saying but I get the impression you are saying 60 is fine for air but not for water??

60 is high for water but perfectly fine in terms of what a quad can handle. IIRC quads are fine up to 70 deg.

I imagine temps are high because it is a pre built sealed unit

I undervolted it to um like 1.08, and now it runs niiiice and cold, after 12 hours of Prime95 small ttf or whatever testing, no errors, clock speed stayed at 2.4ghz, and never went over 40C.

Noo im saying for water at stock volts 60 is pretty damn hot.. By any standards. Im not saying its unsafe, as you said they can take up to 70.. but personally, on water i believe 60 to be too hot.

It must be made illegal to have a Quad water cooled and not overclocked.
