Ukfsn

I am currently with plusnet and I am getting a little sick of ping spikes and random disconections so I am currently looking elsewhere.

Came across this company UKFSN and their prices seem very reasonable and they have no caps aslong as you stay within your usage.

I would be going on the £19.99 one which gets you 30gb peak time usage and 300gb off peak usage which sounds very good to me.

I was just wondering if anyone else had had any expierences with them and what they were like.

Thanks, Sam

Sooner or later they're going to die tbh. They're enta resellers too, that sucks. Probably better than PN, but don't expect miracles.

I'd get ahold of them and just come to a friendly agreement if he needs a bit more allowance. From what I hear IDNet is pretty reasonable when it comes to their allowances.

Just spoke to UKFSN on the phone and they seem very good, 2 rings and an english man picks up who actually knows his stuff rather than waiting 40 mins with plusnet and getting through to someone who hasnt got a clue.

He answered all my questions and everything seems good so far.

I am going to speak to someone on MSN tonight who is currently on them and make my decision from there.

Here's some food for thought... The OC3D game servers are on an IDNet connection, which means if u go with IDNet you'll get the absolute lowest server pings possible :D

Erm...... Hyper gets lower than some IDNet members

Spoke to a lad on MSN tonight and everything looks promising.

Requested my mac key from plusnet and hope to get away before my next billing date.

So ur gonna give UKFSN a shot then? Let us know how it goes!

Yea gonna give them a go.

According to the person I was talking to, he said it is the best ISP he has been with and he has been with a few from plusnet to zen.

It all sounds promising but if it doesnt live upto expectations I can just leave as its only a 1 month contract.

Well I requested my mac code today and was told to wait 7 days but I want to be away from PlusNet as soon as possible so I thought F**k that and gave them a call. Waited for around 15 minutes before getting through but I dont know where they get the upto 7 day figure from as when I spoke to them they said "Yes we will process it now" and I replied "So how long will it take" (expecting them to reply with another stupid number) but then he replied "5 minutes" and to be honest I have never been so pleased with the customer support from plusnet until now ... the day I requested to leave :rollingla

Anyway I placed my order with UKFSN straight away and my account was created but I wasnt billed. They dont bill you until they have confirmation from BT that the mac code is going to work (which I find quite good) so now I am just waiting for them to process my order to BT (when I spoke to them on the phone they said any orders placed for migration are processed right away).

So now PlusNet have done their bit and I have done mine so now I wait for UKFSN to do their's.

Will keep you updated...

Thanks for reading such a rambling post :ban:

Sam :D

Let us know what kind of pings u get mate, hope it all works out well for you. How big of a company us UKFSN? Do they have a pretty good market share over there... Only reason I ask is that I've never heard of em (given I don't even live in the UK) but I've heard of tons of UK broadband providers, this just hasn't been one of em I've heard of.

Your not the only one who hasnt heard of them mate :rollingla

I hadnt heard of them but was searching round OcUK forums and found a link to them as someone was recommending them. I thought the prices were fair but didnt know anything about the company itself and the website didnt look anything special. So I got in touch with the guy who was reccomending them to someone else and had a good chat to him about them.

Here is a taste of the conversation just so you get why I have joined a company I knew nothing about last week.

I said

"So what do you think of the service ?"

Reply

"ive been with them for a month and its the best ISP i've had since I first got ADSL and ive been with eclipse, plusnet and zen"

I said

"Do you play any games and what are your pings like ?"

Reply

"yeah im a bit of a CS nut"

He then pinged a UK server and got the following results:

Pinging www.jolt.co.uk [82.133.85.65] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 82.133.85.65: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=55 Reply from 82.133.85.65: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=55 Reply from 82.133.85.65: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=55 Reply from 82.133.85.65: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=55 Ping statistics for 82.133.85.65: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss)

I then asked him to ping another server just to make sure those pretty good pings were not a one off:

Pinging northernrc.com [213.230.203.134] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 213.230.203.134: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=57 Reply from 213.230.203.134: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=57 Reply from 213.230.203.134: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=57 Reply from 213.230.203.134: bytes=32 time=14ms TTL=57 Ping statistics for 213.230.203.134: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0

As you can see thats a pretty good connection so at this point I got a little more intrested. I then continued asking more questions.

I said

"So you find the service reliable ?"

Reply

"yeah ive never had any problems, except for a stuck bras profile (but thats a BT issue independent of the ISP)"

I said

"My only worry is that I imagine there will be alot of heavy users on it so it may become slow at time "

Reply

"ah but thats where you are wrong

UKFSN is a reseller for Enta

so everything connection wise is provided by enta

your hostname will end with enta.net

Enta itself is a business only ISP

which means that they always ensure to have enough bandwidth across their pipes

and it means that when other ISPs typically have speed problems (evenings and weekends), most of Enta's customer base is offline (being all the businesses)

leaving bandwith for us :D

as ive said, i consistenly download at over 700kbytes/s at all times of the day

We then just rambled on about how crap plusnet are and he seemed a fairly genuine person. So after a little further investigating I thought I would go for it as its only a 1 month contract.

And now I am here waiting to be migrated... :yumyum:

I will let you know what my pings are like once I am on but to be honest all I want is a solid ping of around 30ms (not bouncing up and down like it does on plusnet) and anything else I will just class as a bonus.

Nice mate, gotta love those hombrew ISP's :) We don't have anything like that around here. You have to stick with the big names. Cable internet specifically can only be given to you obviously by the cable company in your town, they don't lease out their lines to 3rd parties for resale. Same goes for DSL in this area AFAIK.

Looks like I gotta wait another week before getting off plusnet

get.php

Blanked some out for obvious reasons.

So are the bt activation dates accurate ?
