I'm currently setting up a file server using Ubuntu 6.06. I was just wondering whether anyone would be able to help with this?

i'm not that good in linux, but may be able to help...

What protocol you using for the server, i'd prob use samba if you want to share with windows too. Just have a browse at www.ubunutuforums.org for a guide, theres plenty.

Yeah I've got samba set up and running. The help I was needing is to do with users and folders. I have a main shared area where music etc is going to go but I want to add folders that only the person who created them can access, possibly passworded. This is the part I need help with.

Cheers, that's basically where I am though and I'm not sure where to go from here. I'll keep reading, see if I find an answer.

if it's just a file server, you may want to look into openfiler ... it's rPath linux distro designed to be a nas. Worked really well for me when I set up a box earlier this week. Really nice feature set and user management. I definately recommend it for a pure file server. Has the most supported hardware of all the nas distros (freenas, naslite2, opennas)
