two questions

first question: for my laptop there was a bios update which supposed to "update vga vbios" I want to know where and how i can access the video card's bios (because the 'normal' bios does not have any section for graphics or such)

second question: even if i can't get in the vbios, can anyone tell me how i can 'permanently' turn off my discrete gpu (its a 520m) but i would like to ONLY use the integrated graphics (hd3000) -- the reason is linus doesn't support nvidia optimus and the 520m is sucking up battery life without doing anything.

Thanks in advance

There is no direct access from POST as like for BIOS, but you can access it from some third-party GUI utilities, but those are for like overclocking and rarely give you ability to disable/enable something

Uh, there can be switch in BIOS(which will give you ability to disable an card).

Or, you can physically remove 520 gt

Laptop, not a desktop

This.

But sometimes u can still do that with higher end systems (just not sure if this laptop has that feature)

If the VGA BIOS is updateable your laptop should have come with an "IN" windows utility that will allow you to update the BIOS or you may be able to download it from the Laptop website. Also some laptops have bother removable CPUs and GPUs.
