Turning an external CD-RW into a external HDD.

I've wanted an external HDD for a while, but been too cheap to actually buy one. Anyway, i found my old CD-RW and ripped it apart, got rid of the rewriter itself and am left with a case, and a circuit board.

The circuit board has power and an IDE cable (See Piccies)

Do you think,

A: it would work and

B: it would be worth it.

Depends on the specs of the Chip(s) on that board..

goog the chip code

if its a pure IDE > USB bridge setup then yes it shd work fine (im intrigued as to if it supports 48-bit LBA)...

it if its a IDE>USB bridge that is hard coded to report as a Specific CD-RW on the other hand............
